In chapter 25 Hajime's gift to Emi is a Magic: The Gathering card of him dressed as Cloud.
Final Fantasy VIII and the song "Eyes On Me" by Faye Wong are referenced in chapter 26.

Currently my party has Cloud, Tifa and Barret, but I’ve just unlocked Yuffie and she seems pretty strong. I’m not sure if she’s good to use, and who to switch her with.
Cecil Harvey is a character defined by his journey from a Dark Knight who follows orders without question to a Paladin who seeks justice and redemption.
At the beginning, he struggles with guilt over the actions he carried out under the King of Baron, even though he believed he was doing his duty. As he begins to question authority and take responsibility for his choices, he sets out on a path to atone for his past and protect others.

This Wiki lists FFX enemies like Dual Horn and Valaha as "Ruminant", and Garuda/Zu as "Roc"
I don't recall seeing these terms in-game and they seem very specific, and also different from Japanese guide sources I look at. Where did these terms come from?
Spellspinner, Lupine, Blade, Dinofish, Drake, Wasp, Reptile, Fungus, etc are also, but to a lesser degree, specific and different enough to warrant the question.
