Fannish clothing is any piece of clothing or accessory with a fannish theme that some fans like to wear in a variety of contexts. Although many fans buy the "official" clothing merchandise available for some franchises, fans also create items of clothing for themselves and other fans. Fannish clothing is distinct from the practices of cosplay or creating costumes for conventions in that it can easily be worn in non-fandom spaces.
Hats and Scarves
Some of the more common examples of fandom-related hats and scarves worn on a regular basis may be Jayne's cunning hat (Firefly)[1], The Fourth Doctor's signature scarf (Doctor Who).[2], and Harry Potter Hogwarts House scarfs. See also Fannish Knitting.

T-shirts
T-shirts with fannish designs are very popular. Designs can include photos or fanart or plain text with fannish references. T-shirts are often made for conventions, movie premieres or marathons, or when promoting the cover of a fanzine.
For example, the cover of NOME 4 beautifully rendered by Gayle F, was so intriguing to us that we decided (with her permission) to make it available in T-shirt form. The shirts are silk-screened, available in white or light blue, sizes Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large... The shirts will also be available at FebCon. [3]
Some Highlander shirts carried a statement about unlicensed fan art, eg. If you are planning to order our HIGHLANDER shirts, we encourage you to do so at your earliest convenience • we have been pressed by attorneys for Adrian Paul to pay a hefty license fee for the privilege of printing our own original artwork • our lawyer advises us that we are under no obligation; however, one can never anticipate how this sort of nasty situation can evolve • it is regretable [sic] that fan loyalty is so poorly rewarded and so, we are as yet undecided if we will continue to offer these teeshirts • please order early. Thank you.
Beauty and the Beast fans made many T-shirts. See: Beauty and the Beast T-Shirts.
Some fan artists create T-shirt transfer sheets. The transfer is intended to be applied with a hot iron by the owner to the t-shirt.
Many conventions sell official con t-shirts with a different design every year.
