The Red Means I Love You is an English-language fansong for My Hero Academia, written and performed by Madds Buckley.
Originally posted on TikTok in 2021, the song was officially released as part of Buckley's Sunset on Summerville album in 2022. As of December 2025, it has over 7.7 million views on YouTube and over 185 million streams on Spotify.
The song is about Toga Himiko, one of My Hero Academia's main villains, who can turn into someone else by drinking their blood. She has slit eyes like a cat as well as fangs, and smiles wide with all her teeth, and is usually blushing. The way she feels, shows and communicates love is by stabbing, slicing, and drinking the blood of those she finds cute (without their consent), such as Midoriya Izuku, Uraraka Ochako, and Asui Tsuyu. Usually she ends up falling for them first during a time they were injured or in pain, frequently due to her hurting them. She also longs to become those she loves by using her quirk (power) to feel closer to them, though sometimes that isn't enough, leaving her distressed.
Although Buckley was very clear on the song's meaning and connection to My Hero Academia, many listeners outside of fandom were initially confused about its meaning, believing it to be about lesbian period sex.
