Once upon a time there lived a kind man and his wife. They loved each other very much and wanted nothing more than to live together and raise a family, but life was not so idyllic. The kind man had not always been a good man and he had married a witch and learned many of her secrets years ago. When she found out he had left her to marry a simple country girl she became furious and cursed the small family. Hoping to save his family from her wrath the kind man left swearing to never return. It seemed as though perhaps that had been the answer for his wife and two children lived a happy life without him. Then one day the wife was struck down by an unexplainable illness. The doctors tried everything to revive her but nothing worked and she died leaving behind her two sons, Edward and Alphonse.
As though drawn by some force the oldest son, Edward, found a secret room in the house where his father had kept all the books on witchcraft. Being young and without guidance he used the books to perform dangerous and dark magic hoping to bring his mother back to life. However what he brought back was a monster who tore into his flesh and took his brother’s body. Using the dark magic once more Edward managed to salvage his brother’s soul and tie to an old suit of armor. Forced to flee from their home by the monster they created and threat of the witch tracing the magic back to them, they traveled to the deep into the city hoping to get lost in the forest of people.
In the city they met a group of men who took them in as one of their own and swore to hide them from the witch. However they did not know then how powerful the witch was, for she had spies everywhere and it was not long before she found where the two boys were hiding, trying to discover the way to restore Alphonse’s body. She began to devise a plan to kill them. First she sent a servant disguised as a priest to them with the promise of unimaginable power, certainly enough to restore Alphonse’s body. When they manage to escape from that plot she sends them a scientist who has found a way to create a stone that allows the possessor to perform miracles. But the price of his stone was too high and the brothers resisted its call. Finally she came herself. Disguised as a beautiful young woman she drew the brothers away from the safety of their friends and into the bowels of the earth where she lived. There she convinced Edward the only way to restore Alphonse was to sacrifice his own body. Using magic for the last time, Edward exchanged his body for Alphonse’s.
However, Edward did not die. His body only disappeared behind a veil of darkness. Unwilling to let Edward cease to exist his friends, after killing the witch, began looking for a way to transverse the veil.
One day a beautiful gypsy princess named Rose came across his image and fell deeply in love with him. Using the power of her love she ripped open a doorway behind the veil allowing him to return the world. Finally returned to this world Edward also fell in love with Rose and they lived happily ever after.
