Update.
Hey there! We know that there's a bunch of you that have been watching this place looking for updates, so we just wanted to remind you all that we are not dead! That's right, the ERB is still around (despite rumours to the contrary) and we're still hard at work keeping Elfwood clean.
There have been a few misconceptions recently, since the new moderator system has been placed into effect, and we'd like to take this opportunity to clarfy a few things.
1. The ERB are NOT the moderators.
The moderators are NOT the ERB. We are two separate entities with our own governing bodies, rules, and agendas. The moderators look over the updates to Elfwood and reject inappropriate material. The ERB remove material that is already on Elfwood. In a few rare situations the ERB may handle the update tickets of certain problem users, but in general we have absolutely NOTHING to do with the moderators.
2. Copying is NEVER okay!
We don't know where people got the idea that copying existing art is fanart, and thus okay in the FanQuarter, but it's not! Unfortunately, the moderators are only human and cannot be reasonably expected to catch every copy before it is uploaded. This makes our job rather difficult indeed, as some members have estimated the proportion of copies in FanQuarter to number 50-75% or more! So please, folks, DO NOT upload copies. Copying is bad.
There are also a few important things to remember if you have received an email from the ERB:
1. READ THE EMAIL YOU WERE SENT
This is, unfortunately, something a LOT of people don't do. We always send the reason why your images were selected to be removed. If you email us, asking us why your picture/s were removed, it is immediately clear that you did not read the email, and results in more time wasted in explaining something already sent to you. Time wasted will affect your appeal, which leads us to the second point..
2. You have ONE week to appeal
Pictures are scheduled to be removed a week after the ERB removal banner appears. You must appeal within one week of that banner going up or it will be too late to make any changes. This is why number 1 is important - if time is wasted re-explaining stuff to you then your image may be automatically removed before you can state your case and have the removal reconsidered!
3. The artist, and only the artist, has the right to appeal a decision
Do not send your friends, your fans, your chat friends, your family/boyfriend/girlfriend to complain to us. We will ignore all complaints and emails from these people.
4. Always keep a backup of your work
This is something all artists, particularly those who work in digital art, should practice or know by now. Do not rely on Elfwood to keep your backup of your work. Once it has been removed, it is gone. The automatic removal now sends a copy of the piece to you, but if your email is invalid or cannot accept attachments it will be LOST and we will not be held responsible.
5. Use the ERB form to contact us
The ERB Contact form is found here.
Do not email Thomas, Mirar, the Join Administrators or other Elfwood staff if you have a complaint for us. Do not use your Elfwood bio or comment board to complain or insult Elfwood, Elfwood's policies, the ERB or even Thomas. This is for two simple reasons:
(a) By the time the ERB notices your complaint it will be too late to save your work.
(b) Complaining about Elfwood ON Elfwood may result in a warning or even expulsion from Elfwood if not changed.
6. BE POLITE
We do expect some people to be a little outraged that their personal artworks are being taken down, but that is still no excuse to be rude and insulting. If you are polite in your emails, we will be polite back. Be rude, and at best we will simply ignore you.
7. Elfwood is a private site owned and operated by Thomas, with the help of volunteers, and run on private servers
Elfwood is based on the strict definitions set out by Thomas, which means that what may be fantasy/sci-fi to you, may not be fantasy/sci-fi for Elfwood. You can argue about what is fantasy/sci-fi until you are blue in the face, but if it doesn't fall under Elfwood's definitions it simply doesn't belong on Elfwood.
-------
Also, please remember... There are no rights on Elfwood, only privileges. These privileges will be taken away if they are abused. Elfwood is not free general webspace. Put simply, it is a privately owned and run, online gallery for fantasy and science-fiction works. The only person who has any rights on Elfwood is Thomas Abrahamsson. It is his site and he has the power to decide what goes in and what stays out.
It is YOUR responsibility as a member to be updated on the Elfwood Rules and Regulations at all times! Ignorance of the rules is no excuse - whether you have read them or not, you are still required to follow them - so it is in your best interest to read them! And with that in mind, please go here and refresh your memory.
