Degree of crystallinity for polymer blends with
PLA was calculated on the basis of melting enthalpy, according to the formula [16]:
"I'm very pleased that the joint venture has started-up the second-largest
PLA bioplastics plant in the world," says Bernard Pinatel, president refining and chemicals at Total.
While the breaking elongation of
PLA exhibited little change from -20[degrees]C to 40[degrees]C, it sharply increased at temperatures over 40[degrees]C.
Aminolysis of
PLA. We followed the methods of Zhu et al.
The enthalpy--the thermodynamic quantity equivalent to the total heat content of a system--of crystallization decreased from 23.15 joules per gram to 14 joules per gram with the addition of starch to
PLA. This indicated that the starch granules might restrict the molecular motion of the
PLA matrix, resulting in decreased crystallinity.
Also, Corbion and Succinity, a joint venture between BASF and Corbion Purac, are promoting a model biopolymer compound of
PLA and PBS (polybutylene succinate) that offers strong heat resistance, balanced mechanical properties, biodegradability and a high biorenewable content.
PLA was used as a reinforcing polymer at different concentrations (10 to 50 wt%), whereas NPCC and talc acted as a nucleating agent were fixed at 2 phr, respectively.
The addition of starch into
PLA is one of the most promising efforts due its abundant and cheap biopolymer particularly cassava starch since it is the fifth most abundant starch crop produced in the world and the third most important food source for inhabitants of tropical regions.
