Historically,
internships played a vital role in education (Herring et al., 1990).
To obtain registration as a dietitian, nutrition students in Ontario need to complete two stages of training: (i) an undergraduate degree in nutrition accredited by Dietitians of Canada (DC) and (ii) an accredited
internship program lasting 35-40 weeks as either a post-degree
internship or integrated with a master's degree (a combined master's-internship) [1].
In some cases,
internships are a required part of obtaining a degree.
