Foreign Relations section needs update
editAs of December 2024 the Foreign Relations section is somewhat out of date with no reference to the diplomatic support it is giving Russia in the context of the War in Ukraine. 91.84.189.190 (talk) 02:52, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Slovakia is part of NATO and supporting all of EU sanctions against Russia, what exactly should be added in the context of the War in Ukraine? Dasomm (talk) 20:02, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
Government and politics
editHi, there's a mistake in this section of the article. Richard Raši has been serving as Speaker of the Parliament since 26 March 2025, not 7 April 2024. Please, edit it. 90.64.18.24 (talk) 10:52, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
I do not know much about Slovakia, but I have noticed something about the nature of the lead section here not changing
editIt looks like the lead section and sentence has stayed essentially the same on this page since 2003. I don't think it is particularly useful or informative. Especially not the first sentence. Thoughts, anyone? Abc7221a (talk) 09:06, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- I dont understand, what exactly is not informative? - Slovakia, officially the Slovak Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the west, and the Czech Republic to the northwest. Slovakia's mostly mountainous territory spans about 49,000 km2 (19,000 sq mi), hosting a population exceeding 5.4 million. The capital and largest city is Bratislava, while the second largest city is Košice. Dasomm (talk) 19:05, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Motto "Pravda víťazí" (Truth prevails) is was in in during Czechoslovak republic and is curretly motto of Czech repulic. Slovak republic doesn't use nor have official "motto". ~2026-98762-1 (talk) 17:59, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- Also Slovak name of the anthem - Nad Tatrou sa blýska is missing, I don't know what was the logic of editing it out, but leaving word "Slovak" with multiple apostrophes. What's the point? Please someone correct, if you need check out Slovak variation of this page for more info. Sorry for my bad english, I'm also writing in a rush. Thank you. ~2026-98762-1 (talk) 18:08, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
Done. I reverted an unexplained and uncited addition. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:32, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
Establishment history
editNow this one’s interesting. Slovakia’s establishment history officially begins in 1918, whereas for example Kosovo’s begins as a part of the Ottoman Empire. I think we could make the section itself larger by including territories such as Samo’s empire, Greater Moravia, Principality of Nitra etc. I’m not saying they’re Slovak, matter of fact they are Slavic yet used Slovakia as core/incorporated territory Txmsey (talk) 09:33, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
- Starting the establishment history with the 1918 independence from Austria-Hungary is the most practical choice because it marks the first time Slovakia existed as a distinct, internationally recognized political and administrative entity. While earlier Slavic states like Greater Moravia occupied the same territory, there is no direct legal or institutional continuity between a 9th-century principality and the modern 20th-century republic. Including ancient or medieval empires in an infobox often leads to "nationalist" edit warring and disputes over whether those states were "Slovak" or generally "Slavic," which distracts from the article's neutrality. Furthermore, the 1918 date represents the definitive break from the Hungarian crown and the beginning of the modern era of self-determination that eventually led to the 1993 republic. Keeping the list focused on 1918, 1939, and 1993 ensures the infobox remains a clear, scannable summary of statehood rather than an exhaustive and debatable timeline of regional history.
