Article Evaluation: Sun Wu Kong
Everything in this article is up to date at least in accordance with my current knowledge of the subject. I do know that there was a recent play in the United States regarding the Journey to the West that almost went to Broadway which is not mentioned in the article. One phrase at the end of the birth and early life section kind of jumped out glaringly to me as it was not really introduced well in my opinion. It begins, "Sun Wukong then defies Hell's attempt to collect his soul." This is presented with little transition and was awkward for me the first time reading it. I think the voice in terms of its neutrality is suitable throughout the article. All the links I checked worked. However, there are large sections of this article that contain a lot of text with minimal citations. Furthermore, the citations it does include are not all necessarily scholarly articles. Regardless of whether or not the sources are completely reliable, the content I looked at did support the claim they were attached to. There is very little activity on the talk page - a total of four posts. Two posts are in regards to the naming of WuKong and the other two are in reference to the background information and removing a tag that was originally included within that section.
Article Selection
I am currently thinking of either taking on the Sun Wu Kong article, one of the other helpers of the monk - the pig demigod, Hina, or Coyote. My evaluation for Sun Wu Kong can be found above. In terms of the other articles, the pig demigod's is very sparse (it was actually nominated for deletion at one point) and does not have a lot of substance in both content and citations. Hina's article is also quite sparse. However, there is more substance there than for Pigsy. Finally, the Coyote article has the most written between the three new articles I am considering. It also has the most activity on its talk page and already seems like a pretty solid article. It has the most references but actually fairly limited text so if I were to take this article on I think it would primarily consist of beefing the actual text in the article up whereas for all the other articles more focus on citations is definitely needed (this is not to say I would not need more references for the Coyote page just more emphasis placed on different aspects).
Citation Exercise
I found an article talking about the Coyote stories and what they could mean for feminists. I could add the following phrase to the "in the modern world" section of the current article:
"There has also been research relating mythology involving Coyote to feminist and lesbian politics. Specifically, stories involving coyote shape shifting have been at the forefront of this research." [1]
