Arbitration enforcement action appeal by apndrew
<small>Procedural notes: Per the rules governing arbitration enforcement appeals, a "clear and substantial consensus of uninvolved administrators" is required to overturn an arbitration enforcement action.</small>

Hi, Apndrew. First off, I've removed the appeal template you placed on this page. (You can still find it in the page history.) The way it works is that that template goes on WP:AE or [[WP as a new section, <em>not</em> here.
<small>To help determine any such consensus, involved editors may make brief statements in separate sectionsspacebut should not edit the section for discussion among uninvolved editors. Editors are normally considered involved if they are in a current dispute with the sanctioning or sanctioned editor, or have taken part in disputes (if any) related to the contested enforcement action. Administrators having taken administrative actions are not normally considered involved for this reason alone (see WP:UNINVOLVED).</small>

That said, I would strongly discourage you from appealing right now, for the reason that most of the edits you've made since the TBAN was imposed have been violations of it. AE admins are generally disinclined to grant an appeal by someone who has been violating the restriction that was imposed, and you are more likely to wind up blocked than unbanned.

However, just as one AE admin, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt for now and assume you misunderstood how a topic ban works. So to be clear: You cannot make <em>any</em> edit, on <em>any</em> page on Wikipedia, concerning the Arab–Israeli conflict, <em>broadly construed</em>. So U.S. university protests about the Gaza war count. Historical emigration to Israel counts. Edits on talkpages, while partly exempt from the extended confirmed restriction (ECR), nonetheless count as topic ban violations. The only exceptions are reverting blatant vandalism or blatant BLP violations, or engaging in legitimate and necessary dispute resolution (like this conversation). Special:Diff/1279888370 <em>might</em> fall under "blatant BLP violations", but honestly probably not... although it's in enough of a gray area that if it were the only violation, we wouldn't be having this conversation. (Call me crazy, but I don't like warning or sanctioning people for constructive edits.) But still, banned means banned, so an edit merely being constructive isn't enough to keep it from being a topic ban violation.
; Sanction being appealed : Topic ban from the Arab-Israeli conflict until I am extended-confirmed.

Please let me know if you have any further questions about how topic bans work. I'm going to log this warning, but will leave things at that. Again, if you want to appeal the TBAN, now you know how, but I don't think that would be a good idea at this juncture—especially given that, even if un-TBANned, you'd still be covered by the ECR, and the TBAN is only a bit broader than the ECR. (The only major difference is talkpages.) <span style="font-family:courier"> -- <span style="color:#E6007A">Tamzin</span></span>&#91;<i style="color:#E6007A">cetacean needed</i>] <small>(they&#124;xe&#124;🤷)</small> 22:09, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
; Administrator imposing the sanction : tobefree

; Notification of that administrator : The appealing editor is asked to notify the administrator who made the enforcement action of this appeal, and then to replace this text with a diff of that notification. The appeal may not be processed otherwise. If a block is appealed, the editor moving the appeal to this board should make the notification.

Statement by apndrew
The reason for the topic ban until extended confirmation is because

1) I allegedly am "operating a single-purpose account dedicated to editing this topic area and influencing discussions about it,"

This is false. A cursory review of my edit history shows I edit more than the topics related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, even though it is admittedly a frequent concern of mine given the unfortunate spread of misinformation and disinformation on that topic in particular.

2) I allegedly "persistently exceed[] the few exceptions the extended-confirmed restriction has"

This is also false. Since an earlier warning, I have not made any direct edits to any topics related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Any edit request I have made and have made through the appropriate channels -- i.e., an edit request or on the talk page.

3) I allegedly have been "casting aspersions".

This is blatantly false.

4) For allegedly "editing articles about the topic directly."

This is also false. See above. After an earlier warning, I have not made any direct changes to an article on the Arab-Israeli conflict.

5) And finally for allegedly " making argumentative not-really-just-edit-requests"

Arguably, I made one comment on a talk page that could be considered argumentative. The comment ended with an edit request. This is hardly grounds to topic ban someone.

For all of the above reasons, I respectfully appeal my topic ban and request it be lifted.
