    Summary

    Description
English: River Swale Flowing under Downholme Bridge. The first bridge over the Swale was built in 1684 as private access for John Hutton, squire of Marske Hall, and much repaired a century later in 1771 following flood damage. The bridge was rebuilt in 1836 and then provided access from Marske to the new turnpike road along Swaledale.
