Cenobio Xavier Hernandez, commonly referred to professionally as "Bubba Hernandez," is a Grammy Award winning multi-instrumentalist composer, bassist, and vocalist[1]. Hernandez was a former member of the Grammy Award winning international music group, Brave Combo. Additionally, he is co-composer/performer with Alex Meixner, producing the Grammy Award wining, Polka Freakout. Additionally, Hernandez is well-known studio bassist for several artists in many different musical genres.
Background
editHernandez is a fourth-generation musician raised in San Antonio, Texas.[2] Hernandez attended the University of North Texas, majoring in Jazz Studies. He is a student of several notable musicians including Dan Haerle. Bubba is the great-grandson of legendary Mexican-American composer Cenobio Hernandez[3].
Notable Compositions
editHernandez's instrumental work, "Recuerdos," appeared in the routine of ice skaters Elizabeth Punsalan and Jerod Shallow (U.S. team) in their 1994 and 1998 Olympic competitions in Lillehammer, Norway, and Nagano, Japan. This work also appears in the 1998 Short Documentary, The Personals: Improvisations on Romance in the Golden Years.
