Finding new companions to share his travels with was easier for the Doctor than people might think. While the companions themselves might believe they were chosen at random, while going about their day-to-day lives, that it was nothing more than chance circumstances that brought them to the Time Lord’s attention, there was another factor at play.
The Doctor encountered hundreds of people as he wandered through time and space, but most would never give up their lives for the sake of adventure. He was drawn to those who shared his restlessness, as they were drawn to him. It was fate.
