Summary: The strange egg from my drabble ‘What Is It?’ finally hatches.

“Hatching?” Ruby leaned over for a closer look. “What d’you think’s in there?”
“I have no idea!” The Doctor grinned. “Isn’t it brilliant?”
“That depends on whether it’s friendly. And where’s the parent? Don’t eggs have to be incubated?”
“Some creatures bury their eggs to keep them warm.”
“But that’s usually reptiles, right? Snakes, turtles, alligators, that sort of thing. Maybe it’s a dinosaur!”
“Wrong planet.”
“Earth can’t be the only planet that had dinosaurs. And it’s a big egg.”
The egg rocked, cracked, split open…
“What is THAT!” It looked like a furry purple octopus.
“Mummy!” it burbled happily.
