Call for Proposals:
The Mixed Race Experience

Bridges, Macalester College's student organization for mixed-race, cross cultural, and transracially adopted students, is looking for people interested in presenting at the National Student Conference for the Mixed Race Experience, which is scheduled March 23rd-25th, 2007 on Macalester's campus in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Proposals are to be germane to the overall subject of the conference – the mixed-race experience – and will receive further consideration if they are related to this year's theme: Looking into the Mixed-Race Mirror: an analysis on the effect of media portrayals of mixed-race people on mixed-race individuals.
Through our call for proposals, we are hoping to attract a greater range of applications than would a standard call for papers. We would like to encourage people to consider any of the following suggestions:
• Workshops
• Musical Performances
• Paper Readings
• Visual Art
• Poetry Readings/Recitations
• Theatrical pieces
• Film/Video Presentations
• Anything else you can think of!
We are hoping to showcase a wide array of presentations in terms or both subject and media at the conference this year. We would love to have a variety of unique presenters with different perspectives and avenues of expression related to the mixed race experience.
Applicants:
• Must insure that travel costs will be provided by their home institution or must be willing to supply traveling costs themselves*
• Must prepare presentations so that they can be deemed "student friendly" by the conference committee, we're looking for interactive presentations!
Those who present at the conference will have their registration fee waived.

Participate!!
We're looking for people who are interested in participating in the conference in one of the following ways:
OPEN MIC NIGHT:
We're having an open mic night. Anyone who wants to perform is welcome to do so. You can have up to 10 minutes on stage to do your thing. This will be on first come first serve basis, so if you're interested, please drop us a note at bridges@macalester.edu with "open mic night" in the subject field. Make sure to give us a brief description of what it is you will be doing, as well as an estimate of how much time you will need.
RELIGION PANEL:
Do you feel that religion has an effect on the way that you identify racially? We're looking for people of mixed-race who might be interested in participating in this panel discussion. We'll be able to subsidize some of the cost of transport to the conference for those selected to participate in the panel. If interested, please email us at bridges@macalester.edu with "religion panel" in the subject line. Please tell us a bit about yourself, and why it is you feel you would be a good contribution to this discussion.
SEXUALITY PANEL:
Mixed and Queer? We're searching for people who would be interested in participate in a panel exploring the role of sexuality in the mixed race experience. If you feel that one identity has affected the way that you think about the other, we want to hear from you! Email is us at bridges@macalester.edu with "Sexuality Panel" in the subject line, and tell us about yourself, and what you feel you have to offer to this panel. As with the above panel, we will be able to subsidize some of the cost of travel if you are selected to participate in the panel.
