Summary: Lee Hyukjae goes about falling in love the complete wrong way, but it seems to be working for him.
Lee Hyukjae is falling in love. This vaguely terrifies him.
It would have been fine if he fell in love with a nice girl, all curves and hips and lips and long eyelashes. They could go on dates in cute cafés and he could shower her in gifts for whatever it is girls actually like, God knows they hate just about everything. They could get married in a chapel and have a picture perfect wedding, with albums of their perfect relationship. They would have two point five kids and live happily ever after.
But that would just be too easy, wouldn’t it?
Instead he falls in love with narrow hips and thin lips, with a wide grin and warm doe eyes. They sleep on each other in the car and he drools on his face, they never go on proper dates in public.
He falls in love with Lee Donghae.
The same Lee Donghae who teases him relentlessly, who is kind and unendingly sweet. Who watches out for him like he’s the hyung, and always has a quick smile and a quicker laugh. Who is so handsome, even in the morning with his hair sticking in ten thousand directions, unmade up smiling at him over the breakfast table.
It hits him like a ton of bricks on a completely normal day. He couldn’t have picked a less romantic moment to realize it either, Donghae’s head resting on his shoulder as he naps, dark circles prominent under his eyes. It’s when a string of drool drips on his bare shoulder that it hits him.
He nearly flinches as the thought runs through his head; the only thing keeping him stable is the thought of waking the clearly overworked man beside him. This thought only makes him start to hyperventilate a bit more as he shouldn’t care about anyone else’s feelings; he’s a bit of a dick like that. But it pains him a little to imagine those big brown eyes staring up at him in confusion as to why his body is suddenly on the floor, to whine and climb back to cuddle in Hyukjae’s warmth.
It’s no wonder everyone seems to think they’re dating already.
This bothers Hyukjae immensely and he flails around uselessly for a week before Donghae wheedles him into telling him.
Hyukjae is very put out when Donghae laughs at him. “Is that why you have been avoiding me all week? Aww Hyukkie, you are too sweet.” He feels his cheeks being pulled in eight different directions and angrily smacks the younger man’s hands away.
At his grumbles that shouldn’t he be bothered just a bit that his best friend just announced that he’s in love with him? Donghae just grins. “Well I’ve been in love with you for years now, I was going to give up on you if you didn’t realize it soon.”
“Oh.” And that’s all Hyukjae gets to say before Donghae’s kissing him, tasting of soda and leftover remnants of their breakfast. And it’s as picture perfect as life gets for Hyukjae, as perfect as he needs it to be.
