Summary: Jongwoon relies on those little moments of perfection to get him through the day. Especially when those days involve a meddlesome thief tagging along to China with you, and these moments are greatly appreciated and hard to find.
A/N: Another Thief Verse :) As per always, these are recommended to be read first, but not necessary.
“How dare you.”
Kim Ryeowook is not happy.
“Come on Wookie; let’s discuss this like rational adults.” Jongwoon sounds almost amused and it makes Ryeowook want to punch him in the face. He refrains from doing so as that would mean he’d have an ugly face and personality. Jongwoon tells him that he doesn’t mean that, and it’s really not that big of a deal.
“You’ve never made this much of a fuss when I’ve gone to China before.” Jongwoon throws another article of clothing into a suitcase, Ryeowook still pacing the room.
“That would be because every other time you weren’t going on a match making venture to please the court.” Ryeowook stops pacing in order to stand stationary in front of Jongwoon sitting on the bed. “If I’ve told you once I’ve told you a thousand times, I do not share.”
“Are you sure it isn’t because I didn’t tell you until today? Stop pretending you’re mad at me now, I know you aren’t.” Jongwoon pulls the thief closer until he’s standing between his knees, hands resting lightly on his hips and one tug away from being in his lap. “I would pick a jealous one.”
“Oh I’m not jealous.” Ryeowook lets himself lean forward until his bangs brush the prince’s cheeks, mouth barely moving against his ear. “I’m too good for you to want anyone else.”
Jongwoon grins wickedly, arms tightening around Ryeowook’s waist as he pulls him down to the bed with him. “I hope you know I’m coming with you.” Ryeowook murmurs into his neck, running his hand down Jongwoon’s chest until it rests lightly on his stomach, toying with the edges of his shirt.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less.” Jongwoon chuckles and pulls Ryeowook up into a searing kiss, all teeth and tongue, as the other man’s hands run up and down his torso under his shirt. If it’s going to be their last night in Korea for a month, they may as well make it count.
……
Sungmin finds a short note on his desk the next day.
Sungmin,
Went to China to protect Jongwoon from power hungry she devils. Will be gone the next month; make sure to take care of everything. Take a break from screwing Henry to do your (and my) job.
-Ryeowook ♥
It takes all of Henry’s strength to keep Sungmin from storming into the palace and hunting down the thief prince. Sungmin instead takes the liberty of screwing Henry on Ryeowook’s desk, just for spite.
…..
Ryeowook kind of hates China.
He hates that there are people everywhere, the muggy weather, and the constant veil of smog in the sky. He hates everything about the country, even the food is subservient to what he cooks. There is only one possible reason in this present time that he would be willing to step foot in the land.
A reason that is currently blissfully dozing on his shoulder, Ryeowook patiently stroking the black strands resting on his neck as they make their way to the Royal Palace.
Jongwoon learns rather quickly upon arriving at the palace that his Thief and the Prince Hangeng have a rather complicated relationship.
“Ah Li Xu, so nice to see you again.” The prince’s eyes are sparkling, and Jongwoon sees Ryeowook smile, that being a warning in itself. “How is my mother’s diamond necklace doing since the last time I saw it?”
Ryeowook steps forward to shake the other man’s hand, smile still plastered on his face. “Lovely to see you again too Hannie, and I’m fairly sure it’s happily resting on the neck of whoever commissioned it from me in Seoul.” They glare daggers at each other before Hangeng laughs, eyes closed into slits.
“Well I can see it was a great decision to bring you along Ryeowook.” Jongwoon grumbles, following Hangeng to their room to prepare for a welcome ball. “You never told me that you and Geng had a history.”
“You never asked.” Ryeowook hums happily from his side, admiring the tapestries on the wall. “In my younger days I was commissioned to steal quite a few things in China, me and Hannie here go pretty far back.” They flash smiles at each other again and Jongwoon finds himself beginning to understand the relationship they have.
Hangeng leaves them alone in their room after directing them as to when they need to be ready, where, and could they try not to make too much of a mess in the room in the next three hours. Ryeowook smiles and slams the door in his face, to which he gets fond muffled curses from behind the door.
He barely has the lock turned when he feels Jongwoon’s arms come around his waist, and his head come to rest in the crook of his neck on his shoulder. “We have three hours, is there anything you can think of to pass the time?” There’s a barely hidden offer in his words and Ryeowook smirks.
“Actually I’m quite tired; you kept me up all last night you know.” He swiftly disentangles himself from the arms around him and bounces onto the bed. Jongwoon blinks after him owlishly, stunned for a moment before following and muttering about teases being the death of him.
It’s not an hour into their nap of sorts when Ryeowook can tell someone is aching to knock on their door. He sighs and untangles himself from Jongwoon as quietly as possible before padding to the door and throwing it open, leaving a wide eyed young lady in its wake.
“Hello, you must be the nice girl with a nicer title that His Highness here has been set up with for tonight.” The girl nods mutely, surprise still fleeting across her face as Ryeowook continues. “Well I regret to inform you that your service will never be needed as he has me. Good day.” And for the second time that day, Ryeowook slams the door.
He is feeling rather pleased with himself as he crawls back under the covers, worming his way back into Jongwoon’s hold. The other man sighs into his hair. “I’m going to have to spend the rest of this trip cleaning up the mess you just made, aren’t I?”
“Most likely.” Ryeowook buries his face into Jongwoon’s neck, breathing in the scent there. “But it wouldn’t be nearly as fun if you didn’t, now would it? Now shut up and let me sleep, I wasn’t kidding when I said I was tired.”
Jongwoon chuckles, pulling Ryeowook up flush against his chest. “And who am I to deny my Thief his only request?” He hums into Ryeowook’s hair until he falls asleep, breath evening out and face softening.
When they wake up it will be to a flurry of activity and orders. To the formality of the court, mandatory ballroom dances and separation until crashing back into bed at some ungodly hour of the morning after being subtly fondled for hours by every dance partner in the room, Ryeowook alternating between glaring and chuckling at him as the night goes on. And then there’s the pain of dealing with the poor girl that Ryeowook told off.
But thinking back to this particular moment, nose buried in Ryeowook’s hair and caught up in a warm tangle of limbs, it makes the night a bit more bearable.
