Are you just getting started as a developer at Uncommon? Maybe you're that tech-savvy girl at UZ or NUST who keeps showing up, even when your skills are dismissed by male classmates who don’t see your shine. Or perhaps you’re in your third year, still second-guessing your CSS or unsure how to bring your ideas to life.
Whoever you are, this space was built for you.
Welcome to AlgoBender Academy.
Where It All Began
Our story started in October 2024, born from frustration, not with tech itself, but with the gatekeeping we saw in existing dev communities. Too often, senior developers flexed their knowledge on social platforms without ever lending a real helping hand. Newbies were left feeling invisible, unwelcome, and stuck.
So, we decided to build our table.
We launched hands-on Vanilla Web Development live builds on Microsoft Teams — real projects, real code, real community. The response? Phenomenal. From Zimbabwe to East and West Africa, developers showed up ready to learn, create, and grow together. No titles, no egos — just people united by code and courage.
What Makes Us Different
At AlgoBender, we do things differently:
Everyone’s voice matters. Whether you're writing your first div or deploying a full-stack app, you have a seat at the table.
No trolls allowed. We’ve built a safe, supportive learning environment. If you think you're better than someone, prove it by teaching them. We all win.
#PassTheMic Tuesdays. Each week, one of our members leads the community through a live project. It's nerve-wracking, empowering, and transformational. Confidence is built here. Skills are sharpened here. Leaders are made here.
We’re not just teaching tech — we’re building a culture.
This Is Who We Are
We are an Afro-tech community rooted in Ubuntu, driven by growth, and bound together by unity.
We are the voice for the voiceless, the boost for the beginner, and the tribe for the tenacious.
If you’ve been looking for your people, your moment, or your breakthrough, this is it.
