Just yesterday, I was chatting with a fellow dev. He casually asked, “You went to Droidcon? I didn’t register. Not really for Flutter devs, right?”
I smiled. Because a week ago, I thought the same. But then I said,
“Bro, you missed something more than a tech conference. You missed the experience.”
Before the Conference: Doubt & Curiosity
The moment I saw the lineup for Droidcon Bangladesh 2025, I was torn.
Half of the talks had “Kotlin” in the title. The name Droidcon itself screamed “Android.”
As a full-time Flutter developer, I almost skipped it. But then I thought:
“What if I go just to see what the Android side is up to? Worst case: I learn nothing. Best case: I walk away inspired.”
So, I registered.
Day 1: Flutter, Inspiration & A Surprise Perspective Shift
The first Flutter moment of the day came with:
“Legacy to Clean Architecture: The Pill We Had to Swallow” by Walid & Niaz
This hit home. They talked about rewriting legacy codebases, testing architecture boundaries, and learning lessons the hard way. As someone who’s wrestled with tangled code and refactors, I felt every word.
But the session that moved me deeply wasn’t technical at all.
“From Pet Project to Startup: 10-Year Journey of the Muslims Day App” by Abdullah Al Hasan
This was a story. A real, emotional journey starting from a tiny personal project to a full-blown product helping thousands. It reminded me why we build apps in the first place. Not just for code quality or fancy UI but to solve problems, and sometimes, change lives.
Later that day, another non-technical but powerful talk came from:
“From Code to Influence: Growing from Android Engineer to Engineering Leader” by Omar AL Zabir
I didn’t expect to love this one, but I did. He talked about career transitions, team dynamics, and how your influence can grow far beyond the codebase. As a Flutter dev building solo and with teams, it made me reflect:
“Where do I want to be in 5 years? Am I just coding, or am I also growing?”
Day 2: Flutter-Focused and Full of Fuel
If Day 1 cracked the shell, Day 2 lit the fire. Flutter dev’s this was our day.
It kicked off with:
“Design Systems: What it is, How to Create One & Cut UI Code by 50%” by Abu Anwar
This one was loaded with practical advice on how to stop repeating UI code and start building smarter, scalable UIs. You don’t need to be in a huge team to create a design system. You just need to think ahead.
Then came my favorite:
“Engineering Flutter: UI, Architecture & Embedded Tech” by Momshad Dinury
He didn’t just talk about theory. He showed how Flutter can scale, even with embedded tech. It was clean, real, and full of those subtle details you only get from someone who’s done it at scale.
Between sessions, I also learned from hallway conversations people working on apps that serve millions. And then, out of nowhere…
I Won the Quiz!
They hosted a fun quiz I joined just to test myself.
And somehow, I won 2nd position!
Not a big prize. But in that moment, I felt something even better:
“You belong here. You’ve grown. This is your community too.”
What Most Flutter Devs Miss
Later that evening, I told my friend:
“It’s not just about Android or Flutter. It’s about people. About being in a room where you can ask questions, learn, laugh, and grow.”
You might think:
- “There weren’t that many Flutter talks…” - True, but the ones that were there? Powerful.
- “Will I relate to Kotlin sessions?” - Surprisingly, yes. Architecture, testing, design systems they transcend platforms.
What you miss when you skip events like this is more than tech.
You miss:
- Meeting dev’s solving the same problems you are
- Hearing how big teams think
- Discovering tools and processes that don’t exist in tutorials
Should You Go Next Time?
If you’re a Flutter dev wondering whether Droidcon is “worth it”. Let me save you the debate:
It is. 100%.
Not because of the logo. Not even because of the sessions. Because of the people, the mindset, and the magic that happens when dev’s gather.
Final Thoughts
Droidcon BD 2025 wasn’t a Flutter conference. But it didn’t need to be.
It was a developer conference. And Flutter dev’s are developers too.
So next time, don’t let the name fool you.
Register. Show up. Ask questions. Win the quiz.
Make connections. Be part of the bigger story.
You’ll be surprised what it gives back to you.
