I'm Todd Garland. I founded BuySellAds in 2008, which also runs Carbon Ads. Before that, I was one of the first 10 employees at HubSpot. In 2018 I started Great American Mining, a Bitcoin mining company using stranded natural gas — acquired by Crusoe Energy in 2022.
I think a lot about what happens when intelligence becomes something we manufacture, not just something we're born with. The cost of building is collapsing. The cost of exploration is collapsing. More ideas survive long enough to be tested. More people get to participate. And the infrastructure required to support all of it — energy, compute, coordination, capital — is becoming one of the most important things a society can build. I believe the direction of that shift is inevitable, even if the details are still unfolding.
I write about that here. I also build things — some serious, some not. Most of them start as a question I wanted to answer for myself.
As building moves closer to natural language, ambition starts to function like literacy — because willingness becomes a bigger source of leverage than technical skill.
April 21, 2026The real shift is not better software. It is that humanity is beginning to manufacture intelligence itself — and that changes everything downstream.
April 11, 2026On why the biggest constraint on building was never time — it was friction — and how AI is changing the cost of exploration.
