I suppose it is an understatement to say that it is quite an uprooting to be be reborn in another world; there are certainly marked differences between this world and my own.

But there are also striking similarities.

It certainly leaves one with a considerable amount of questions so I shall not dally;

In my wanderings I have stumbled across flora both familiar and quite alien - I would suspect some of it is native to this world? Back in my own I am an apothecary of sorts; I would be most appreciative if any other herbalists better acquainted with the plant life of this world would recommend texts on the matter.

I would be more inclined to simply experiment on my own, but there is the confounding matter of blood pollution. I am uncertain how it manifests in local vegetation, how to recognize it, and how to neutralize its effects when crafting medicine - if the latter is even possible. So again, I will ask for any recommended reading on the matter.

Furthermore, I come with an offer.

I am an apothecary, yes, but I am also a craftsman of incense - something it seems is of vital import in surviving the many oddities of Trench. Materials provided, I will happily offer my services in either role in exchange for food or shelter.

I can't say I am an expert on organic botany, but I am interested in studying the effects of incense on the creatures of Trench. What materials do you need, specifically?

Woods such as cedar or agar, various resins like benzoin or frankincense, and herbs like cinnamon, star anise, and ginger lily are common ingredients for plant based scents.

I understand that such ingredients are difficult to obtain - impossible if they have no counterpart in this world.

Are you at all familiar with such things?

I'm certain I can find a book on such plants. Once I have them catalogued in my databanks, identifying them in the while should be a simple task.

I didn't know they were such experts! I usually ask my squirrel friends for help with such things! But I will certainly ask my rabbit friends instead.

I suspect they learn it from the rabbit on the moon.

i can't tell you about any books but there are a bunch of flowers in Lumenwood that are native to this world
they look like blue sunflowers

and the blood pollution junk
the dirt is real grody for plants, it probably has something to do with that
it's hard to get a good meal out of it
it sucks a lot

I enjoy reading. And I am talking to people right now.

So blood pollution contaminates the soil, rending it barren. Interesting. Usually blood is quite good for such things.

Are you a plant by chance? Or do you just eat soil?

I'm an alchemist. I've been trying to study the soil in this place- see if we can do something about the blood pollution that's making it tricky to grow things. I have a potting shed you're welcome to take samples from, if you like.

Melius is definitely the person to talk to about mushrooms, though.

Well, we have to look out for each other here. If something helps the community at large, it's worth investigating.

That's the question. I think it's a little of both. I've definitely found physical corruption in the soil, but given how people were reacting to the spilt blood in the Gate battles, I'd say it's more than that, too.

There should be some horticultural books in Gaze that can help you with this. The library and documents I've found are somewhat thorough, though additional studies will prove very valuable.

I am very interested in access to incense and does not indebt me to the Disciples. I can help in trade for food, though I cannot help much with Shelter. My home is designed for only one. Short stays are possible in the loft, but you'll want to arrange something longer term.

Food is more than an agreeable trade - it would seem shelter is not too difficult to come by here.

Who are the Disciples?

Shelter is generally fairly easy to find, yes. They've made arrangements for us to find living quarters for ourselves, so you will find a place to stay without a battle I should think.

The Disciples are one of the various "roles" that people take within the town. They seem to be more mystically inclined, but they are also tied up in worship of the Pthumerians. And, while I do not distrust all Pthumerians, I've learned not to take anything they say or do without a grain of salt.

I have food. What does your incense do? It better not be snake oil.

Snake oil? I would not think the musk from snakes would make a particularly good incense.

My aromatics are usually plant-based anyway.

I can't really help out with identifying blood pollution or figuring out how it works, but I can take you up on your other offer.

I'm Ruby Rose. I'm building up a network of safe houses for people within Trench in case things get especially dangerous. If you need any help with food or shelter I'd be happy to provide.

If you're able to make us incense or anything else that could help to keep people safe and healthy I'd be happy to take you up on that.

That does sound like a wise course of action. With the festivities, food is easy enough to come by for now, but if I am not better situated by the time winter comes, I may take you up on your offer.
