UPDATED, with additional Trump comment: About an hour after Stephen Colbert signed off on his final Late Show on CBS, Donald Trump posted a note of celebration.
At 1:52 a.m. ET on Friday, the president posted on Truth Social, “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”
Later on Friday morning, Trump continued, “Stephen Colbert’s firing from CBS was the ‘Beginning of the End’ for untalented, nasty, highly overpaid, not funny, and very poorly rated Late Night Television Hosts. Others, of even less talent, to soon follow. May they all Rest in Peace! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
Trump was a frequent, even nightly, target of Colbert’s humor, and was none too happy about it. Unlike Trump’s predecessors, he has lashed out on social media or called for hosts to be fired.

On Colbert’s final show, though, there were just a few references to Trump, including when guest Paul McCartney talked of getting orange makeup before the Beatles’ appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. The Beatles debut that night occurred in the same theater where The Late Show has broadcast since 1993, starting when David Letterman was host and then Colbert.
CBS has cited financial reasons for ending Colbert’s show, even though it has topped other late night shows in the ratings. The network has denied criticism that it pulled the show to win Trump’s favor, as the decision was announced just as parent Paramount was seeking FCC approval for its acquisition by Skydance.
The White House also posted an AI video of Trump dispensing with Colbert.
Whenever Trump posts you can easily tell he’s doing nothing but speaking about himself. He’s constantly projecting. No one likes this clown and the quicker he disappears from office (hopefully under arrest and in handcuffs being taken to prison) the better off the country will be.
If he thinks this is the last we’ll see of Colbert, he’s clearly mistaken. Stephen is going to come back with a vengeance and Trump the idiot won’t be able to do a thing about it. I can’t wait.
Colbert left with grace and dignity, which is little to be said with a lot of disgraced purged maga like Noem, Bondi, Gabbard, Santos…
I will truly miss Stephen Colbert’s sharp wit. I especially enjoyed the opening monologue. Some of his jokes made you think in order to see the humor.
I don’t see how anyone can make late night talk shows into something “evergreen” Late night shows are for experiences and being controversial!. It’s part of what we should celebrate for 250 years!
You need to stop worrying about tv shows and worry this crazy world you created
Fact:
Late Show with Stephen Colbert had the highest ratings of any late night show.
Fact:
Trump has some of the lowest poll numbers of any POTUS in American history.
Fact:
Stephen Colbert is an extraordinarily talented entertainer who will go on to do more successful projects.
Fact:
Trump is a loser on every level and will be scorned by history until the end of time.
Well, he won the contest twice for President of the United States, so not so much of a loser, huh?
Trump will go down in history as the 2nd biggest mistake in the history of this country. And you and Maga will go down as the 1st biggest mistake in the history of this country. You’ll be remembered as a version of Neanderthal man in a red hat, so, congrats!
Jefferson said people elect the government they deserve. Just because the American people were idiots doesn’t make Trump a winner. He will go down in history as a major LOSER. And that is something the American people will carry scars from for years and years to come. And, those fools who believe otherwise are the same fools who elected Trump and deserve what they get. The rest of us just have to suffer.
He sure lost to Biden, though!
