Instructor
Saturday at the Sea
– 5 Monaten
Ausbildung
Instructor in program led by the Florida State University Biology Department to teach middle school students about coastal marine ecosystems and coastal ecology of the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. I led children in a hands-on environment and directed operation of seine net, otter trawl, refractometer, secchi disk, boats, and boating equipment.

Mentor
Young Scholars Program
– 2 Monaten
Ausbildung
Mentor for three high school students selected as part of Florida State University’s Young Scholar Program. Directed students in exploratory data analysis and research at COAPS for 10 weeks, analyzing meteorological and oceanographic data from an observing station in the Gulf of Mexico. Assisted students with analyzing the observed oceanic response to significant atmospheric events and floods of local rivers toward assisting my dissertation research.

Artificial Intelligence for Data Center Operations
NREL
This project was an investigation of how AI and Machine Learning can be used in High Performance Computing Data Centers. The technical report describes progress and findings on the first two years of the collaboration between NREL and HPE. In particular, it: 1) Details of the overall streaming data and software architecture that have been developed to support the capture and accessibility of the complete set of facility and IT energy data from hundreds of sensors, meters, and controls; 2)…

Data Driven Energy Grid
Energy providers deal with outages in their network from a variety of different causes. As private renewable energy sources become more available to residential and commercial customers, the complexity of the network's topology increases every day. This Proof-of-Concept project is focused on demonstrating ways that data from a major energy provider can be used to predict outages in their network. My role in this project is the Lead Data Scientist for T-Systems International.

All new vehicles since the mid-1990s have been equipped with ports able to transmit diagnostics from the vehicle. While the data transmitted was at first limited to basics such as engine diagnostics, braking, windshield wiper status, expanding technology and the Internet of Things has brought a wealth of additional information from vehicles to be collected. My role in this project is to develop analysis methods for data from these sensors and to predict features that may lead to safer…

Deep Sea Exploration
Projekt anzeigenAs a science observer onboard DSV Alvin, I was one of the team members who discovered a centuries-old shipwreck off the coast of North Carolina. Our observations using HD cameras and visual cues helped us identify several artifacts in the shipwreck, including glass bottles, ceramic jugs, and navigation devices.

Water Age and Residence Time
–Heute
Projekt anzeigenProject lead for design, implementation, and production of high-resolution ocean model simulations for the Western North Atlantic Ocean and Intra-American Seas. Model predictions were used to investigate the fate of river water in the coastal ocean and to estimate the residence time of water on the continental shelf.

Predictability of Florida wildfire risk from the Keetch-Byram Drought Index
-
Creation of long-term historical records of rainfall, temperature, and Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) for NOAA COOP stations in the state of Florida. These records were used to create various statistical models (multiple linear regression, ANOVA, ANCOVA) for the prediction of wildland fires from KBDI on monthly and seasonal timescales.
Statistical toolboxes used: SAS, MATLAB
Programming languages: Perl, MATLAB, Fortran, IDLAndere Mitarbeiter:innen -
