The Omega Sanction was born countless eons ago along with The Source, created as an opposite force to its Energy of Creation, mostly known as the Alpha Effect.
The Omega Effect, also known as Omega Sanction[3] or Omega Force, is a fundamental force of the Greater Omniverse and the dark reflection to The Source's Alpha Effect. It is mainly wielded by the New God Darkseid.
History
Origins
The Omega Sanction was born countless eons ago along with The Source, created as an opposite force to its Energy of Creation, mostly known as the Alpha Effect.
It is actually a sentient force[3] which, according to the World Forger, embodies conquest, absorption and control.[1] The Force also chooses its own wielder among the most dangerous beings in the Multiverse, leading to the birth of an absolute being known as King Omega. In the beginning, as The Source sent his Hand Perpetua to create the Multiverse,[6] the Omega Effect became a central force throughout Creation along with the Alpha Effect.[1]
Since the defeat of Perpetua,[6] the Energy of Creation was used to reshape with life every planet throughout Creation, including Earth– the greatest source of Alpha Effect. However, a billion years ago, the Omega Effect actually began shaping an obscure realm, which will be later known as Apokolips, centered around the so-called Heart of Apokolips– a sentient energy core that was powered up by chaos and destruction. The Heart of Apokolips chose the ruler of Apokolips, the mad New God Darkseid, as its own champion, cosmically connecting to him: this connection gifted the New God immense powers and abilities, like the Omega Beams.[1]
Darkseid can also use his connection to the Omega Force to trap any individual into an endless cycle of death and rebirth.[3]
Pre-Crisis
Pre-Flashpoint
Shilo Norman was trapped by the New Gods of Apokolips into the so-called Life Trap, a fictional representation of the Omega Effect, for an unknown amount of lifetimes. After confronting the embodiment of the Omega Sanction and making it realize it was trapped as well, Mister Miracle managed to convince the force to leave their cage and turned the energy against Darkseid.[3]
Post-Flashpoint
Darkseid War
Dark Nights: Death Metal
After her ascension in the aftermath of the Justice League's defeat,[7][8] Perpetua, the Mother of the Multiverse, summoned Darkseid, who was just defeated by the Justice League Odyssey, and stroke a deal with him: the Batman Who Laughs, Perpetua's new-found ally, allowed Darkseid to rule over a Dark Multiverse world, in which he actually won during the Final Crisis, while the Hand began absorbing the Crisis Energy born from its existence.
Darkseid was completely mutated by the Omega and reshaped this world as a reality based on destruction and chaos. The New Gods slaughtered the heroes of Earth, enslaved all the humans, and turned the planet into a new Apokolips.
When the heroes of Earth 0 rose against the Batman Who Laughs and his Dark Knights, each member of the Trinity chose a distinct Crisis World in order to free it from Perpetua's control. Superman came to this dark world and met his greatest rival, witnessing his victory, but was quickly overwhelmed by the enemy's forces, including several Dark Multiverse version of himself.
However, after Wonder Woman managed to convince Superboy-Prime join their crusade, the heroes came to help Superman defeat Darkseid and redirected the Crisis Energy of his world to the Mobius Chair.[9]

Notes
- According to Time Trapper, Alpha Effect and Omega Effect are actually the primal sources of energy in the Greater Omniverse– directly born from The Source of All Existence. His words imply that all the Forces of Doom in the Multiverse, like the Seven Hidden Forces or Anti-Life Equation, are powered up by Omega Force at their core.
