matt grzelcyk/jimmy vesey
childhood best friends! they met when they were six and played street hockey together in the summers for years! they played together in high school before matt left for the ntdp. here is a great article to read about them. when the bu student paper did an article about matt being captain, they asked jimmy for quotes; read it here. back in 2012 when they were drafted, there was a short thing on nesn about them and another friend of theirs, here's a pic from it. (the whole segment is on youtube if you feel so inclined.)
in terms of stories, i'd love ... really anything. but a marriage pact would be fun! or soulbonds! or a story about them playing on rival teams in (the) boston (metro area) while still being good friends! matt is secretly a virgin! jimmy is secretly a virgin! (or both!) them making a relationship work this season cause jimmy's in new york and matt's in providence (for now). or a breakup-makeup story would be great, because i love it when people are sad and have to really work on their relationships before they can be happy.
casey fitzgerald/ryan fitzgerald
(obviously, for this ship, i want incest. it’s only there in my dislikes just cause i don’t want any other incest.)
so what we have here is senior boston college forward ryan fitzgerald and his “not so little brother,” sophomore boston college defenseman casey fitzgerald. i assume ryan calls him this cause casey has several inches on him. they seem very close, and spend a lot of time together. they also look very alike. seriously, it’s uncanny. ryan played high school hockey in the boston area, but casey went to the ntdp. both of them played for the USA at u18s when they were eligible, but neither has played at u20s, though casey might this year. anyway, ryan was drafted by the bruins in 2013, and casey by the sabres in 2016 (his second year of eligibility, since he was passed over in 2015. if you wanna make things sad in fic that’s a good tidbit.) their father is tom fitzgerald, who worked for the penguins and now works for the devils. ryan and casey and tom did a delightful piece for the players' tribune that gets into their family dynamics and ryan and casey's experiences growing up.
in terms of fic, what i really want is fraught feelings and happy endings. protective older brother ryan who doesn’t know how he feels about all these messy feelings about his little brother! or maybe something that plays on a messy soulmark/soulbond setup—one or both of them doesn’t have marks, or even just played more straight. after all, having your brother be your soulmate is pretty messed up. or something that pulls in how alike they look. someone sleeps with one of them thinking it was the other one? i didn’t request a threesome here, but i definitely would not mind reading one. maybe one of their teammates hooks up with the wrong fitzgerald—colin white was in the same billet family as casey at the ntdp, noah hanifin was a freshman the year before casey and they were at the ntdp together, they know all your typical boston trash kids, etc. and then everyone has confusing feelings! really i’m here for the confusing feelings.

i'm gonna level with you on this one: there's not exactly a lot to back this ship up. but they're both boston (area) kids, and they're both bruins prospects—matt was drafted in 2012 and ryan in 2013—so they've been at dev camp together for several years now. it’s all very boston. and, significantly, matt went to boston university and ryan is currently a senior at boston college. aren't rivalries fun?
anyway! they're cute! they know each other! they were college rivals in the same city! so ... sex bets? sex bets. or maybe they've been dating for a few years but they keep it secret cause they don't want to get shit from their teammates. ryan sneaking into matt's apartment last year and trying to hide from all his roommates! or years of dev camp hookups that turn into school year hookups that turn into unexpectedly missing each other when matt goes to providence. really i just want matt gryz being a sweet soft boyfriend with every possible candidate.

man, if you thought the last ship didn’t have a lot of support, have i got news for you. this new genus of garbage fire has even less to back it up, but i love it so much.
anyway, some background: david quinn is the fourth-year head coach of the boston university men’s hockey team. matt grzelcyk was the captain of said hockey team his last two years at bu, quinn’s second and third seasons as head coach. in general, his players seem really fond of him and lot of them have had really nice things to say. as regards matt specifically, the main thing that jumps out is that at the end of the 2015-16 season, when bu was brutally eliminated from the ncaa tournament with a 7-2 loss to denver, matt and coach quinn did the postgame press conference together and—seriously, this is real—coach quinn got a little choked up talking about how he was going to miss the seniors, and matt rubbed his back. a lot. also, coach quinn thinks of that class of seniors as friends, and hopes they like him enough tol go golfing with him if he pays.
fic-wise, what i really want from this pairing is stuff that explores and at least somewhat resolves the age and power differential issues. i don’t want to ignore them, because they’re way too big, but i don’t want them presented as insurmountable, either. stories about people having to work to make their relationships function are so good for me!! also … you know, throw some tropes in, that’s always good. make one or both of them a secret virgin! or maybe they’re soulmates and can’t act on it cause david is matt’s coach! or they get secretly married a few years after matt graduates and have to learn to make their relationship work as something that isn’t super insular.
in summary: i hope you enjoyed all these thoughts and feelings, and feel free to run with something i suggested or not. i’d love anything about these ships, and i'm already super excited!
