Listens: Just me... humming the Voyager theme hehe

Getting hooked again...

Well, the sun is shining, the weather begins to get warmer -at last!!- and I have three more free days ahead... Not bad at all!! And to make it better, I'm in a glorious state of "hookness" with one of my particular "loves" and feel really activated again.

And what is the reason for this "activation"? Well, I have a personal therapy that never fail me. I guess it comes from the days I was a little kid with many health problems and a lot of time that had to be filled up. I learnt very early to put my mind into things that conforted me and helped me forget for a while that I was having a bad time. As I couldn't do much but to use my mind and my imagination I turned into stuff able to brought me far from where I was, if only in my mind's eye. This way, I fell in love with books, movies, tv series, writing... anything that could be enjoyed being restricted to a bed. This may sound as pure scapism but I don't see it as so. It doesn't mean I wasn't aware of what was happening, that I was avoiding to face it. It only made me endure it and gave me something to hold on. And it still works. Whenever I feel bad, I only have to go back to one of those things or discover a new one and the magic operates again.

So, as I was a little down during the past week, I just looked around for something new and made someone lend me seasons two and three of Star Trek Voyager. Btw, and in a more practical note, I hope the responsible for the prizes of the DVD packs reads this and makes something to lower them, as they're almost impossible to get by a poor girl like me. If it wasn't for my friend J...

But getting to the thing... Star Trek in all its forms has been one of my so called "loves" for a long time now. And Voyager is not an exception. It has taken me longer to arrive to this third season, but I've enjoyed it just the same. And as I'm not very good in writing "in short", I'll talk about the episodes that really impressed me, either by their theme, the performances or their general quality, as well as of others that I'd like to mention for other reasons, in separate posts or this will look almost like a book.

As for my favourites...

"prototype": interesting issues regarding the Prime Directive, artificial life, the responsiblity of someone in creating a new life form, etc.

"Meld": some thoughts about death penalty, what a sociopath has in his/her mind, how to deal with this problematic... Also an opportunity of realizing how hard life is for Vulcans in reality and how much effort they have to exert to keep themselves under control, in spite of appearances.

"Deadlock": on duty, sacrifice and courage. I have the feeling some people doesn't like Janeway but I really do, specially after something like this ep. She not only shows that has courage and well stablished morals and principles but also that she is compasionate and caring. I also like about her that she's a real captain, strong when needed, with resolution and a good self-steem, thought she can be flexible and manages to keep being a woman, and not a woman doing what she supposes a man would do in the same circumstance. Sometimes she may be wrong as anyone else, but she is right most of the times and not loosing her traits, her true nature or her inner self in the way.

"Tuvix": a complex issue... the rights of a living being versus the rights of others, which survival depends on the death of the first one. It's difficult to explain in just a line. From my point of view it has something to do with "The phage", from the first season but the most curious thing is that Janeway's decision and actions take exactly the opposite way as in the first one. In short, Tuvok and Neelix get physicaly mixed, after transporting back to the ship and the result is another being that keeps traits and qualities of both of them. While the crew tries to find out a way to bring back the two of them, this new being begins to get used to the situation, to adapt and make friends, until the solution is found. Then he refuses to go back to the previous separated state but Janeway forces him to do so. I don't know if I liked her choice. I think I could debate about this forever and never get to a proper conclusion but it surely was an interesting concept to go along with.

"The chute": about friendship, hope, endurance, survival... pretty hard, intense episode and very good performances. I was specially impressed by Garret Wang. I'll never forget him, crying out desperately "this man is my friend. Nobody touches him!", while trying to defend Paris' life.

Third season coming next...
