Toy Companies Cheer Proposed Lead Rule Change
Improved toy safety legislation, passed a few months ago, meant relief and good news for parents and children alike. As the post explains, one group of people were not so relieved. Independent handcrafted toy makers have been fearing the new lead testing and labeling requirements that are to take place in February 2009 will be too costly and may put them out of business. Members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) suggested that small toy manufacturing companies that use natural materials such as organic cotton, untreated wood, flax, linen and silk be exempt from lead testing. The CPSC must vote on the exemption proposal by January 5th 2009.
