[misc] A quick guide to pairing names

This is by no means an official guide!!

Feel free to remind me of ones that I've missed.  I tend to go with names that I've seen Japanese people use.  Also, the following list is in no way complete.  I'm not the authority on this, but since I've received quite a few comments from users who have introduced themselves as new fans, I thought it should help since I often write from my fan perspective (nearly 10 years...).

Also, I probably should have done this post before my 8EST MC digest because my focus for the MC disc is member love…

In alphabetical order (list will be continually updated):


Hina + Maru
what I call them: idiots


Hina + Ohkura
what I call them: fine dining pair


Hina + Ryo
otherwise known as: HinaRyo


Hina + Subaru
otherwise known as: Matsubara Kazuhiro. (dot) [this is their manzai name and while Subaru = Matsubara Kazuhiro, Hina is the dot], mitei combi (未定コンビ)


Hina + Subaru + Yasu
what I call them: primates (Hina=gorilla, Subaru=monkey, Yasu=chimpanzee)


Hina + Yasu
otherwise known as: gorilla pair (even though Yasu is supposedly a chimp)


Hina + Yasu + Ohkura
otherwise known as: YonaYona trio


Maru + Ohkura
what I call them: Broccoli and Cheese


Maru + Ryo
what I call them: Sunshine couple


Maru + Yasu
otherwise known ask: Yamada, MaruYasu


Maru + Yasu + Ohkura
otherwise known as: Ohyamada, Kanjimi 3


Maru + Yasu + Ryo
otherwise known as: BIG WEST

otherwise known as: the younger ones (年下組, toshishita gumi)

otherwise known as: OhYass, Dekoboko, Yousei (fairies… I have NEVER seen anyone call them this, but I do believe they played fairies in Magical Summer)

otherwise known as: TORN, RyOhkura


Ryo + Ohkura + Maru
what I call them: citrus trio


Ryo + Subaru
otherwise known as: Kimazui, Hanikami, SubaRyo
lesser known as: Ace/Arsenal (for those of us who ship them in 8UPPERS, too), Petit Tomato-kun and Petit Tomato-chan (from a really old magazine article where Subaru compares the then tiny Ryo to a cherry tomato), Ryo and Tsubukai-kun (the latter is what Ryo says he named Subaru in his phone contacts)
what I call them: Ketchup and Mustard

otherwise known as: O-gata trio, Glorious trio
what I call them: stop-light trio

what I call them: shorties/chibis, primary colours

otherwise known as: YokoHina, the married couple, Recomen couple (probably no longer since Maru's replacing Yoko), mom and dad

otherwise known as: 3馬鹿 (sanbaka), the three ossans, the three oldest (年上3人, toshiue san nin), the older group (年上組, toshiue gumi)


Yoko + Hina + Subaru + Ryo
otherwise known as: Birikens


Yoko + Maru
otherwise known as: YokoMaru, PanPanda (sometimes by their panda names, RyuuRyuu+YuuYuu), glutton pair (食いしん坊, kuishinbou pair)
lesser known as: Halloween couple/pair
what I call them: my two favourite fatties

otherwise known as: gluttonous trio (メタボリック, metabolic), OL-tachi (Hina calls them this when the fawn over food)

what I call them: gamer pals/pair

otherwise known as: MonHan trio

otherwise known as: 三兄弟 (sankyoudai)
