Surely As The Sun

Hello from Las Vegas, as promised here is chapter 1 of Surely As The Sun. I didn't have as much time to type at the airports and on the planes as I thought, so I didn't finish, but did start chapter 2. I hope you enjoy it.

Mary stirred then opened her eyes and looked out the window of her new bedroom in her new house. She rolled over and smiled at her sleeping fiancé, kissed the top of his forehead, and slipped quietly out of bed, careful not to wake him. It was a beautiful day in late June, and they had been home from touring overseas for two months. After giving themselves a couple weeks to rest and recover they started looking for a home to call their own. They searched for 3 weeks and didn’t find so much as a maybe; nothing caught their eye, or was memorable. Then, one day, while driving out to look at a possible location for their wedding, they saw it. It was about a half hour outside of Tulsa.

”Isaac! Stop the car!” Mary yelled, and would have jumped right out of her seat had it not been for her seatbelt.

“What, what is it!?” Are you ok!?” Isaac stammered, slamming on the breaks and quickly turned to her.

“Look!” She pointed out the window to a big house being built on a huge plot of land. By the looks of it, they figured at least 10 acres. “Let’s go up and look at it!”

“Mary, I’m sure that someone is having it built for themselves, this looks like private property.” He was starting to get a little irritated, but she took no notice.

“No, look it’s got a ‘for sale’ sign in front. Please please please can we go up and look at it!?” She begged with big puppy dog eyes. He looked at her for a second and wanted to turn her down, but he caved.

He backed up a little and turned up the long driveway hoping they didn’t get into trouble for being there. It was Saturday though, so there wasn’t anyone around. Mary hopped out of the black SUV, and ran up the porch to the front door, while Isaac took his time. The porch was beautifully done, but not stained yet. That didn’t stop her from envisioning a swing on the far end, and little lights lining the steps though. “What are you doing?” Isaac asked as she pulled on the handle.

“I wanna look around inside!” She struggled with the obviously locked door.

“Please don’t get us in trouble; lets just look around from the outside.” She sighed, and settled for peeking through the windows.

From what they could tell, it was nearly finished. The floors looked done, and the bathrooms had showers and toilets. There’re weren’t any light fixtures yet though, and the kitchen was missing appliances. It didn’t matter though; it was all they needed to see. Even Isaac had to admit that he loved it. It was in a beautiful location as well, off the main roads and the nearest house was a mile away at least. On their way out they took down the number on the sign and called first thing Monday morning. That afternoon, they arranged for a walk through from the inside. “Oh Isaac!” Mary cooed as they poked around in what would be the master bedroom. “It’s everything I hoped it would be! It’s perfect.”

“I know what you mean.” Isaac said coming out of the master bathroom. “I really like it.”

Mary grinned from one ear to the other “Can we get, please!” She playfully batted her eyelashes. Isaac laughed and walked over to her embracing her in a big hug. “Does this mean yes?”

“We’ll see.” He laughed, amused at how giddy and child like she had become over it. “We have to find out all the information first, but yes, if the price in reasonable and within our range, we can get it.” He pulled back from the hug and smiled at her.

She squealed, then reached up and kissed him on the cheek. “I love you I love you I love you!” She said bouncing on the spot. By the end of the week they had begun the process of buying the house, and by mid June, they were moving in.

Mary stood at the window watching the birds in the trees, and the little squirrels run across the grass. They had only been there one week, and she still couldn’t believe it was their’s. She looked down and watched the way the sun danced across the diamond on her finger and smiled, unable to believe that less than a year ago she was cursing the memory of the man that she was now engaged to. “I know it’s pretty, but it doesn’t hold a candle to your beauty.” Mary jumped at the sudden appearance of Isaac’s voice, a hint of sleepiness still in it.

“Oh god Isaac! You scared me! I didn’t know you were up…did I wake you?” She put her hand to her heart, feeling it race.

“No,” He said shaking his head. “I’ve just been watching you.” He grinned, “You’re happy here aren’t you?”

“Yeah I am.” She said climbing back in bed with him as he lifted the covers to let her in. “So…I was thinking,” She said as he wrapped his arms around her.

“Uh oh,” He interrupted, “that’s never a good sign.” He said jokingly.

“Oh shut up!” She said smacking him playfully. “No, really, I was just thinking, what if…what if we have the wedding here?” She smiled at him, quite proud of her suggestion, while he leaned back and contemplated the thought.

“You know what? That’s actually a really good idea. I’m so lucky to be marrying someone so smart.” He said giving her a soft kiss.

“Yeah, I mean, we’ve got enough space, we could get married under the big oak tree and at the other end, the caterers could be setting up.” She felt herself get really excited; she had been starting to lose hope in finding somewhere to share their vows. Anyplace they found that they liked was just too small, and any place big enough lacked personality, and warmth.

“There’s only one problem.” He said, not wanting to bring her down from the cloud she was on.

“What?” she asked frowning.

“We’re getting married in January. It’s going to be cold, possibly raining.” He looked at her hoping he hadn’t completely burst her bubble.

“Oh…” She said pausing to think for a moment. “Tents!”

“What?” He asked a little confused.

“You know, tents, we’ll have big tents set up. And we can have Awnings set up for the ceremony it’s self. Yes that’s it. There it’s all set.” She smiled. “I’ll talk to your mom and we’ll start arranging everything!”

Isaac smiled at her. “That sounds great…so we have a place to get married now…” He grinned. “We’re getting married.”

She matched his grin and leaned her head on his shoulder then nodded. “We are…we’re getting married.” She could have stayed there all day long, being that close to him was her favorite thing in the world, but then she noticed the clock on her nightstand. “Oh crap! I’m gonna be late!” She jumped out of bed and ran to the closet to find something to wear. Their clothes were the last thing they unpacked, and they were so tired that they just threw everything in the closet without any rhyme or reason, and hadn’t found time to straighten it all out yet. She finally managed to find a pink tank top and a pair of faded denim cut off shorts.

“Late for what?” Isaac said yawning, and pulled himself out of bed as well.

Mary looked up as she pulled the shirt over her head. “Oh I’m sorry, I thought I told you. I’m meeting the girls to do wedding stuff. Kate Natalie and Lauren are going with me to try and find the bride’s maid dresses.

“That sounds like um…fun? Isaac said going in the large walk in closet to get dressed himself.

Mary just rolled her eyes and dug into the box that all their shoes were still in. “what are you doing today.” She said as she resurfaced dropping her shoes on the floor.

“I think we’re gonna hit the studio. We’ve got a new song that we’re excited about and we wanted to record a rough cut.

“Oh fun! You’ll have the album done in no time!” She smiled as he came out throwing his shirt over his head.

“You look so cute that.” Isaac said smirking at her.

“You say that everyday.” She said blushing, and slipped into the pair of flip-flops she had unburied.

He walked over to her with open arms and embraced her. “That’s because it’s true.” He leaned into kiss her just as she threw her hands over her mouth and ran for the bathroom. Isaac sighed and followed her in. He knelt behind her, pulling her hair away from her face, then rubbed her back soothingly.

“I’m sorry baby.” She said coughing as he filled a cup with some water and handed it to her.

He smiled a little. “It’s ok sweetie, I didn’t realize that flu bug had come back.”

“It never left; it’s just gotten a little better.” She stood up and reached for her tooth brush and squeezed some tooth paste on it.

“Sweetie, that does not look like it’s getting better. Promise me you’ll call a Dr. or something.” He looked at her concerned and rubbed her back again while she finished brushing her teeth.

“I’m fine, I swear. Listen I gotta go.” She kissed his cheek and went back into their bedroom.

“If you don’t call, I will.” He said leaning against the bathroom doorway, watching her rummage in her purse for her keys.

“No!” She yelled, looking up at him and just stared for a minute. “I mean…sorry, listen, if I need to see a Dr. I will, but right now I’m ok…I’ll be back later ok?” She walked over to where he stood, a cross look on his face. “Please don’t be like that, I promise that I’m ok, just…trust me.” She looked into his eyes and he broke.

He sighed then wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek. “I just don’t want anything to happen to you, I love you so much.”

She smiled up at him and kissed his lips softly. “I know baby, I love you too, you’re my everything. Now if you excuse me, I really need to be going, I’ll see you later.” She kissed his check again and headed out of the bedroom, then out the front door to her brand new silver BMW, an engagement gift from Isaac, and drove away.
