Career schools / Vocational Schools (Berufsbildende Schulen) are only mentioned. Adding them in detail would increase the complexity level enourmously.

The Star "(*)" marks state schools combining Hauptschule and Realschule, which are common in some German Länder ("Regelschule" in Thuringia, "Mittelschule" in Saxony, "Sekundarschule" in Saxony-Anhalt).

This diagram image could be re-created using vector graphics as a SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If a SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}. It is recommended to name the SVG file “German School System.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

This image was created using LaTeX with PSTricks. Unfortunately I couldn't convert it to SVG. If someone can, I will gladly give him the source code or EPS file.
