The Boys Finally Starts Delivering on the Promise of 1 Supe Being More Powerful Than Homelander

The roads are finally opening.

Power isn’t the name of the game at the start of The Boys. Vought International has total control of the Supe market, which means that there are no challengers to The Seven. The members of the superhero team get to sit in their ivory tower and do whatever deranged activity comes to mind. That doesn’t sit right with everyone, though, as people like Billy Butcher and Hughie Campbell lose everything to Supes and want their pound of flesh. The titular team goes to great lengths to expose both Vought and its Supes, especially Homelander, but they run into a major issue: the leader of The Seven is unstoppable.

Not only does Homelander possess incredible strength and durability, but his heart is consumed by hate, which drives him to make rash decisions. There’s no way for The Boys to find their footing when they’re going up against him. Fortunately, a new path to victory may be revealing itself, as one Supe is proving that they can surpass Homelander.

Gen V Holds the Key to Destroying The Boys‘ Homelander

The first season of The Boys spinoff, Gen V, lacks the same stakes as the flagship show. Nobody is gunning for the Oval Office or blowing up people’s heads (for the most part). What Gen V does have going for it, though, is that it introduces a new generation of Supes. The students at Godolkin University all aspire to become members of The Seven, and a few of them possess the necessary qualities. Jordan Li, for example, has two different sets of powers that make them a tough matchup for anyone. However, Jordan doesn’t hold the spotlight for long, as a challenger emerges from nowhere and puts the entire campus on notice. Marie Moreau can control blood, which may seem gross but proves to be very effective.

In Season 2, the new dean at Godolkin, Cipher, takes great interest in Marie because he sees potential in her, going as far as to say that she can be more powerful than Homelander. She doesn’t believe him at first, but after he pushes her limits in Episode 4, her tune changes. Marie’s cage match with Jordan proves that she can go toe-to-toe with heavyweights by controlling their blood rather than just her own. The only issue is that Marie lacks the right teacher. Cipher is only out to help himself, but there is someone else in Marie’s life who can lend a helping hand, and they happen to be a major part of the battle against Homelander.

Starlight Can Get the Most Out of Marie & Help Her Beat Homelander

Starlight (Erin Moriarty) in Gen V Season 2

While being the world’s savior probably isn’t in Marie’s future plans, she might not have a choice in assuming the role. She learns in Gen V Season 2 that she’s the only surviving candidate from Project Odessa, and while she doesn’t know what that means yet, it’s clear that Vought was seeking to find a way to create more powerful Supes. Starlight believes that the initiative is starting back up, and if Marie is able to take it down, that will go a long way to stopping whatever Vought is doing. But doing the right thing might mean that Marie has more put on her plate, especially if Starlight finds out that her new ally is part of Odessa.

Without Marie at their side, The Boys are seriously outmatched. The only other Supe who has been able to leave a scratch on Homelander is Soldier Boy, who is currently on ice. Homelander has access to his dad’s chamber, and it’s unlikely that Billy can get the father-son duo to turn on each other again. There’s also no guarantee that Billy himself will have what it takes to kill Homelander, as he’s living on borrowed time at this point. Gen V isn’t comparing Marie to Homelander by accident, so it’s only a matter of time before the two cross paths. Marie had better hope that she has complete control of her abilities when the time comes because any misstep by her or anyone else means instant death.

Gen V Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
