The cat is finally out of the bag in Peacemaker‘s sophomore outing. After weeks of speculation, Season 2, Episode 6, “Ignorance Is Chris,” reveals that the most popular theory is true: the titular hero is running around Earth-X. In this world, the Nazis won World War II and took over the entire planet. Christopher Smith doesn’t realize what’s going on around him because his new home offers everything he wants, including his family, love, and universal praise. However, learning the truth sends a chill down his spine that he won’t be able to ignore in the season’s final two episodes.

While it seems like Episodes 7 and 8 will be pretty straightforward, with the 11th Street Kids likely picking a fight with the Nazis posing as heroes, James Gunn has promised that big surprises are on the way. Here are four theories for the final episodes of Peacemaker that set the stage for the future of the DC Universe.

4) Vigilante Finally Comes Into His Own

The biggest wild card going into the home stretch of Peacemaker Season 2 is Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante, who has a different mission than his friends. After arriving on Earth-X, Adrian seeks out his doppleganger and learns the truth about the Top Trio. The bombshell may drive Vigilante to join the Sons of Liberty and bring an end to the fascist regime running the country. If all goes well, Vigilante could do enough to make himself a good candidate for a solo series down the line.

3) Nazi Superman Is in Charge

“Ignorance Is Chris” features the biggest cameo in Peacemaker thus far, as Rick Flag Sr. visits Lex Luthor in Belle Reeve to pick his brain about pocket universes. The conversation the two men have certainly alludes to the Man of Steel, but they fail to name-drop him. What might be happening is that Gunn is avoiding mentioning him because he wants to throw everyone off the scent. Gunn claims that Superman is sitting this project out, but he could mean Earth-One’s hero, which would open the door for an evil version of the character to pick a fight with the titular character and his friends.

2) Lex Luthor Seizes His Opportunity

The only way Flag Sr. can get Luthor to cooperate is to offer the villain a transfer that will return him to Metropolis. While A.R.G.U.S. is busy dealing with Peacemaker and Earth-X, Luthor can start making moves and ensure his escape ahead of the events of Man of Tomorrow. It’s a tall order because Gunn doesn’t want his projects to feel like homework, but Luthor breaking out of prison is bound to happen at some point.

1) Earth-X Is Here to Stay

The most shocking thing that Peacemaker‘s final episodes can do is end on a cliffhanger by having Chris stay with his family. After all, there’s no guarantee that when he goes home, Emilia Harcourt and everyone else will accept him. Rather than tying everything up in a neat bow, Gunn can shock the world by making Earth-X a permanent fixture of his franchise, setting it up for future stories.

Peacemaker Season 2 is streaming on HBO Max.
