Less than one month after its international release, the first installment of the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy climbed its way to becoming the most successful anime film of all time. The franchise had already broken Studio Ghibli’s long-standing record in 2020 with Mugen Train, and the second film became an even bigger blockbuster hit. The film commences the epic showdown between the Demon Slayer Corps and every demon serving under Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon progenitor. The deaths of several Ubuyashiki family members, including the Corps’ master, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, only strengthened the resolve of the Demon Slayers as they swore to avenge their beloved leader.

However, although the Hashira and Tanjiro came face-to-face with Muzan, they were thrown into the Infinity Castle before they could act. After that, Nakime, the Biwa demon, trapped every single Corps member and scattered them across the endless labyrinth. The first part of the film trilogy follows several major characters as they navigate the castle and confront the challenges before them. While it features a number of exciting battles, the arc is far from over and will conclude in the next two installments. As fans now await the second part of the trilogy, Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini has shared a disappointing update with THR.
Demon Slayer Studio Hasn’t Confirmed Infinity Castle’s Part 2 Release Date
Now that the first part of Infinity Castle has been released, it’s about time for fans to start getting curious about the next installment. However, in his recent interview with THR, Purini stated, “Well, we’ve announced that it will be a trilogy of movies, but our partners at Aniplex and Ufotable haven’t decided on dates yet.”
He continued, “But look, there’s definitely urgency for all of us to bring more Demon Slayer to fans as soon as possible.”
The manga reached its conclusion in 2020, exactly one year after the anime adaptation first aired. By now, the majority of fans already know how everything will play out in the Infinity Castle, but that has only fueled more hype around the series, since watching it unfold in theaters is an experience of its own.
That said, creating an anime film of this scale with such detailed animation is an immense task, which is why it will likely take Ufotable longer than expected to announce a release date for the second part.
On the bright side, Purini also set high expectations for the upcoming installments. He commented, “Well, we’re still in the midst of the first one’s release, so all I can say for now is that we’re working closely with our partners to make sure the next two movies are going to be just as amazing — if not better.”
The first part has already been highly praised for its stellar animation, OSTs, and extended fight scenes that elevate the thrill of the Infinity Castle Arc. It’s currently showing in theaters near you, so don’t miss the chance to catch the excitement while it lasts.
