Every mad professor forgets his creations, but one of them has been quietly keeping monsters at bay for years, and this Halloween season, his story is finally stepping into the light. Ahead of the film’s release, Collider can exclusively reveal the official trailer for Stitch Head, Briarcliff Entertainment's new animated adventure starring Asa Butterfield. Blending gothic charm with heartfelt comedy, the family-friendly film brings a quirky twist to the Frankenstein legend when it opens in theaters on October 29. Stitch Head is adapted from the bestselling book series of the same name by Guy Bass.
High above the crooked rooftops of the village of Grubbers Nubbin sits a looming castle laboratory where the maddest of mad professors puts together bizarre inventions and monstrous creations. But once his experiments come to life, he quickly loses interest and leaves them to gather dust. Among them is his very first creation: a stitched-together boy known simply as Stitch Head. While the professor dreams up new horrors to bring to life, Stitch Head quietly keeps the household in order, ensuring the half-finished monsters don’t cause chaos and that the townsfolk never have to march to the castle gates. It’s a life of quiet duty, unrecognized and unthanked. Stitch Head’s world is turned upside down when a traveling freak show rolls into town and its owner, Fulbert Freakfinder, spots potential in him and promises him fame, fortune, and maybe even love. For Stitch Head, who has spent his existence in the shadows, the chance to be seen and celebrated is too good to pass up.
A Forgotten Creation Finds His Voice
The film brings the tender story to life with Butterfield as Stitch Head, with Joel Fry, Alison Steadman, Rob Brydon, Fern Brady, Tia Bannon, and Jamali Maddix rounding out the ensemble voice cast. Steve Hudson adapts and directs the film, with production by Sonja Ewers and Mark Mertens and executive producers including Adam Nagle, Mark Rau, Guy Collins, Tom Ortenberg, Ronnie Exley, Jeremy Ross, and Oli Strong. At 91 minutes and rated PG, Stitch Head is designed as a family-friendly gateway to gothic fun in a similar vein to spooky season favorites ParaNorman and Frankenweenie. The new trailer teases the film’s blend of comedy, heartfelt storytelling, and family-friendly spookiness that will come to screens this fall and show audiences the tale of a creation learning that he deserves to be seen.
