About me

Hi! I'm Otto, living near Berlin, Germany.

A lot of my time is devoted to free/libre software communities, as apparent on my contribution graph.

I am a happy contributor to Forgejo, the software that powers Codeberg and renders this profile.

Currently, I am also the executive director of Codeberg e.V., and I am honoured by the trust placed in me.

In particular, I am maintaining parts of the infrastructure, such as the Ceph cluster and the Forgejo instance(s), doing public relations work and other tasks no one else picked up.

Last but not least, I study computer science in Berlin and work in event technology (often voluntarily for social, cultural and political projects)

Support me

I currently do not have any fixed income. Except for one paid contract for Forgejo consulting, my work for Codeberg and Forgejo is voluntary.

I'll happily accept a gift (German: Schenkung). However, I won't offer a specific service in return and it will not make me work more. However, it makes me live more relaxed, which would be very nice.

(You can eventually hire me instead.)

You can send a gift in EUR to my bank account:

Or give me cash during a personal meeting.

If you prefer other payment methods, consider donating to projects I care about:

Work with me

In case you have some spare time, I'd love to see you contributing to my projects.

I am available for co-working and onboarding in all my projects. Please let me know in case you are interested. See below about how to schedule a meeting.

Take a look at Codeberg/Contributing, Forgejo's warm welcome and let me know if you want to pick one of the good first issues.

I prefer guiding an interested contributor through a change I want to do myself, because I currently think it is an exciting way to contribute. Although it might be slower for me, I hope it multiplies my contribution in the future.

Talk to me

If you want to talk to me, you can ask and schedule a meeting.

My interests and skills

Since early 2024, my focus is on user research, usability and user experience.

I like semantic HTML5 and to some extent CSS, because it allows to build well-structured, semantic and accessible web solutions. I avoid JavaScript wherever I can.

Recently, I started nerding around with browser tests, working with Playwright testing for Forgejo.

I believe that I am somewhat good at project management, completing work with high priority and impact first, and encouraging my co-workers to do the same.

Event technology is my passion and I have some knowledge about audio technology, video processing, wireless systems and show lights. I prefer theatre and musical shows over live music / bands.
