Danny was a delivery boy for Nile's money, obtained via criminal operations. He was the childhood friend of Louis DeNonno, and closely associated with J, an expert on insurance fraud. He was killed and betrayed by J.
Background
Danny and me were a couple of poor suckers from the street. No family, no nothing. Just two punks with no future.Louis DeNonno
Danny was a street pickpocket with no familial relatives. He became friends with Louis as both shared similar lives, with DeNonno possibly acting as a brother figure to him. Under Nile, he acted as their delivery boy, carrying the money the criminal organization made with insurance fraud and art theft.
Danny became obsessed with J's idea that he should steal the "Angel Painting" from Nile's hideout. He wished to live a better life along with Louis, as both felt they couldn't keep working for Nile. If the plan worked, they would escape from the city under new identities.
However, Danny eventually desired more than just stealing the painting and planned to steal Nile's entire art collection. Louis tried to stop him due to the risks involved, but he refused. They agreed to meet at a restaurant if the job was a success.
Death
That was three years ago. December 24th, 1976. I'll never forget it.Louis DeNonno
In December 24th 1976, Danny went on to pursue his plan while carrying Nile's money from a recent operation, however, he didn't come to the restaurant as established. Worried, Louis went to Nile's warehouse and as soon as he began opening the door, he heard a gunshot. Without thinking twice, he hid immediately and peeked from the door; inside the room was J with a gun in his hand, and Danny, laid on the floor, wounded and crying. Louis did not intervene (as he lacked any weapon) until J left him for dead, taking Nile's money and the "angel painting".
Under weak breath, Danny apologized to Louis for his failure in acquiring the money, and explained that J double-crossed him, as he was in fact an undercover cop. NYPD classified Danny's death as gang/Mafia related, without witnesses.
