Can hydropower become even more flexible? ⚡ As solar and wind power continue to expand, hydropower plays a crucial role in balancing intermittent renewable energy. But flexibility comes with challenges: increased wear and tear on hydro-mechanical equipment and rapid water level fluctuations in rivers. Hybridisation offers a smart way forward. By combining hydropower plants with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and other renewable energy sources, operators can enhance flexibility while reducing adverse effects on equipment and downstream environments. The experts at Gruner bring together a wide range of technical domains: ✅ Hydraulic engineering ✅ Hydraulic machinery ✅ Renewable energy ✅ Battery Energy Storage Systems This makes Gruner an ideal partner for designing and planning hybridisation projects at hydropower plants – and beyond. At the HYDRO HYBRIDIZATION 2026 conference, Frédéric Evers and David Notzon presented the paper: "Hydropeaking Mitigation through Hybridization with Batteries – Challenges & Opportunities" The paper was authored by Frederic Evers, Tristan TOUZEAU and David Notzon , and highlights how hybridisation can support operators in making hydropower assets more flexible, resilient and ready for a renewable energy system. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dKyazxkG How are you preparing your hydropower assets for a more flexible energy system? #Hydropower #BESS #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #innovation

🎓 From classroom to boardroom: 18 students took part in Business Week at Gruner What is it like to run a company, make strategic decisions and take responsibility for the company’s success? That's exactly what 18 students from Muttenz High School experienced during Business Week at Gruner. In collaboration with Handelskammer beider Basel and wirtschaftsbildung.ch, Gruner hosted its first-ever Business Week. For the students, this was an opportunity to experience business beyond the classroom and step into the role of entrepreneurs. In a realistic business simulation, they managed fictional companies through five turbulent financial years, developed strategies, responded to challenges and experienced the impact of their decisions. The highlight of the week was the investors’ conference, where the students presented their companies and business results to a panel of judges. “The quality and content of the presentations impressively showed just how much can be achieved in one week,” said Prisca Valentino (Dr., DBA), Senior HR Business Partner at Gruner. Insights like these help young people to understand economic principles in a practical way and to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. We are delighted to contribute to this important learning experience. Thank you to Handelskammer beider Basel, wirtschaftsbildung.ch and everyone involved who made this week possible. #Gruner #BusinessWeek #Education #SupportingYoungTalent

Engineering resilience starts beneath the surface 🌍 How do soil, structures and seismic forces interact when safety truly matters? From 1 to 3 July 2026, Gruner Stucky Ltd will be present at the 2026 International Conference on Computational Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction – CompDSSI in Riva del Garda, Italy. The conference focuses on advanced numerical approaches for analysing the dynamic response of soil-structure systems and their role in protecting civil engineering structures against natural hazards. For Gruner, this topic is closely connected to our work in hydropower, dams and seismic safety. We are proud that Dr. Domenico Gallese, PhD is part of the Organising Committee, representing Gruner within an international expert community. On July 3, 2026, Dr. Alban Kita will present the paper: "Seismic Safety Assessment of a Double-Curvature Arch Dam through Progressively Non-linear Time-History Analyses." His contribution will explore how advanced computational methods can support the seismic assessment of complex dam structures — and help engineers make informed decisions for safer infrastructure. 👉 More information: https://lnkd.in/dPz5b-nw What role do you see for non-linear dynamic analyses in the future of seismic safety assessment? #2026CompDSSI #SeismicSafety #DamEngineering #SoilStructureInteraction

👷♀️ The best solutions emerge where different perspectives come together “As a woman, I don’t automatically offer a better perspective – but a different one. And it is precisely this diversity of perspectives that we need in engineering.” To mark International Women in Engineering Day, we’re putting the spotlight on Katrin Frohberg, Head of Structural Design and Building Maintenance & Preservation at Gruner in Lucerne. For Katrin, this different perspective means looking at technical issues from various angles – shaped by different experiences, professional backgrounds and circumstances. This applies to work on construction and renovation projects, but also to management tasks. At Gruner, we are convinced that successful engineering thrives on experience, expertise and diversity. Different ways of thinking strengthen collaboration – and help us to develop sustainable solutions. What new perspective has changed the way you approach engineering? #WomenInEngineering #EngineeringIntelligence #Leadership #DiversityInEngineering #Gruner
