Listens: Knives Out; Radiohead

THIS IS A REALLY FUCKING LARGE POST. O__O

First of all, some super-duper news:

1. I AM GOING TO SEE THE ROLLING STONES IN CONCERT ON SATURDAY. HELLZ YES.

2. 'The Court of Illumination' has a gig tonight. We're performing at a party for the Film Festival in front of Tribeca tonight. Apparently they contacted Ash Circle first, but Loki was all like: "HAHA, WHAT? Call these girls instead!" We're probably not getting paid, but it's at a bar so who knows- we might get free drinks! (not that I should be drinking on a school night, :P) Besides, ANY publicity at this point is good publicity.

3. This is how geeks find each other in a room (or at a bus stop) full of other people; so a guy comes up to me at the bus stop yesterday wearing a fedora and a Mortal Kombat shirt (first clue: outdated clothing + visible-nerd-wear is the standard combination. Myself, I was wearing a faux 17th-century style blazer and a Magneto pin), and we had the following conversation:
Him: "Has the 18 come by yet?"
Me: "No, but your shirt is really awesome."
Him: "Thanks, I made it myself. I work at Kung-fu t-shirts."
Me: "Hmm, I always mean to stop by there when I have money. I need to make myself a 'What Would Brian Boitano Do?' shirt."
Him: "Well, he'd make a plan and follow through."
Me: "I'm sure he'd kick as ass or two."
Him: *holds out hand* "So, my name's..."
Thus I now know where the multi-geeks hang out (I already found the anime geeks XD). Apparently this guy's girlfriend wants to start an Anime Society which, yo, I could totally get behind (although admittedly I'm about three seconds away from joining the Historical society in the meantime. Yaay).

4. RE House: Wilson and Foreman are my favorite characters. Wilson's being shoddily written this season, and Foreman appears to have CEASED EXISTING, so I'm understandably a little bitter about the season thus far. However, I'm really enjoying the medical stories (definitely more so than the ones in S2) and Cameron continues to grow on me. Also, House/random underage girl is totally the new OTP of the series. Srsly, guys.

5. Okay, so I love picspam. I love picspam a lot. Today's picspam is something EVERYONE who's ever liked Batman- even a little bit- can definitely appreciate. I finally found a torrent for Chuck Dixon's Robin: Year One, which blew me away not only in terms of story, but also the art!!!! The ARRRTTTT in this comic is SO GODDAMN BEAUTIFUL. It's not, like, Jim Lee or anything, but really: I don't think I'd mind if EVERY BATMAN COMIC looked like this. It's simplistic and old fashion, but oh- the details! The COLORING! The fact that everything manages to be so fluid and CINEMATIC without being... well, Jim Lee. XDD Also, the story itself is very classic. At it's core, it's all about Batman, Robin, Alfred and JIM GORDON back in the glory days of crime fighting when Gotham was terminally stuck in the 1940's and no one knew whether or not Batman really existed. It's certainly one of the best Batman stories I've ever read (or watched for that matter).

AND DID I MENTION THE ARRRRTTTT!?!?!?

Bruce drives a catty automobile. Oh yes. And those girls are WAAAAY too old for Dick.

I'm surprised he doesn't get beat up for dressing like that. o_O And I love how Dick's all like: "OMG. Girls would NEVAR look at meeeeee. :("

- GIRLS WILL NEVER LOOK AT YOU DICK. NEVER EVER EVER.

Jim Gordon is absolute ♥ in this story. His body language is just so adorable and *perfect*.

Awwwww. ♥

There's something about this scene that's just very classic. The old batfamily, all squished up into that TINY corner of their huge dinner table is just so cute. And Alfred reminding Dick to use table manners, XDD You can take the boy out of the circus...

This was the page that made me go: "DSJFSDJHFDSHF OH WOW THIS ART IS REALLY QUITE KEEN." Don't pay attention to Dick's SUPER-AWESOME STEALTH, pay attention to the Secretary as she paints her nails and talks on the phone- there's just a lot of random details in this comic that makes it feel like the background action is just as "alive" as the stuff we're supposed to be paying attention to.

.... THAT KIND OF ISN'T FUNNY IF YOU'VE READ 'NIGHTWING'. GODDAMNIT, BLOCKBUSTER. And considering this was written by Chuck Dixon around the time when the whole Blockbuster thing was going down, I think that jab was intentional. Gragh.

OH DICK. OH ALFRED. AWWWW.

- in fact, all the body language in this comic is fantastic.

Lawl, the washing maching is IN the Bat-Computer. XDDD

This whole chase scene is really nice. I love the colors, the action, the cheesy old fashion feel of it all ^___^

......... Alfred is just, like, the coolest character in comics. Ever.

... XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

...... his "stately manor, eh". :P

THE ART. IS SO GOOD.

DICK, DITCHING A GIRL FOR BATMAN? *GASP* NEVER!

These two panels are a lovely parallell. Awwww. :( :( :(

I THINK I SAVED ALL THE JIM GORDON SCENES. REALLY.

.... THAT IS JUST THE MOST ADORABLE EXPRESSION IN THE UNIVERSE. IT'S... TOO ADORABLE. IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. IN FACT, WHY ISN'T IT ILLEGAL? I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE A LAW AGAINST DICK POUTING LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN. :( :( :(

Sulking around the Batcave in his Robin uniform. XD Silly Dick.

This whole page is very cinematic.

And it's not a "classic Batman story" if Robin doesn't fuck up.

BEATING ROBIN TO DEATH, A GRAND AMERICAN TRADITION.
The SuperDictionary wasn't kidding:

Oh Batman, it's so sweet when you get all worried and talk in Really Small Fonts.

Alfred, when you say things like that you're pretty much ASKING for literary irony to come kick you in the ass.

That might just be my favorite sucession of panels in the entire story. Also:

I like Two-Face quite a bit.

OH, ALSO, THERE'S A PLOT HERE. IT'S KIND OF FAMILIAR.

BECAUSE BATMAN NEVER, EVER FIRES ROBIN.

First of all, what is with the "sexy lady" poster in the background? Dick's, what- 12? 13? Secondly, that crawl he's doing across the bed screams: "LOOOOK, BRUCE, I'M SUCH ADORABLE, NUBILE JAILBAIT! YOU CAN'T FIRE MEEEEEEE. T____T"

And then everyone does what they do best in this family: angst.

... even Alfred.

Dick and Bruce practice for late-80's DC canon.

HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I LOVE THE ART? LOOK AT IT! LOOOOK AT EEEET!!!!

- SRSLY, LOOK AT IT! AREN'T YOU MOVED? :( :( :(

This is a very good "running away" page. I like the Haly's Circus poster. Also, the utility belt blowing up. XD

Now, that's just the most darling thing. And now I imagine him doing that to the people he arrests when he's working as a police officer in Bludhaven. :P THEN EVERYONE WOULD *REALLY* THINK HE WAS GAY.

Sometimes Harvey can be a really nice guy.

THE JOKER!!! YAAAY! ♥ Tee hee, Harveykins.

Oh, Bruce. ♥

............. dammnit, Bruce.

BEST. THING. EVER. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Dick and Babs just have to be the most ADORABLE trainwreck ever. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO SPILL THE OREGANO, DICK. WHY!?

THAT'S RIGHT. RAVEN RAPED STARFIRE. :O
