Life - Bolsheviks

Ugh, I reek of makeup.

1. I was too sick to get out of bed on Sunday, so I finally took Joe's advice and marathoned the entirety of Venture Brothers, which is a super fantastic cartoon that I liked a lot more than I thought I would after seeing the first episode. Although I don't see why I wouldn't like it considering it was full of GEEK HUMOUR and, uh. Geek Humour. ♥ Also, interesting characters and *seriously* strong continuity. I was impressed by the show's sense of continuity.

3. Speaking of superheros, this is a meme that's been going around with female comic bloggers recently, in response to the proverbial: "WELL, WHY DO YOU GIRLS EVEN READ COMICS IN THE FIRST PLACE!?" question.

My answers are all pretty dumb because apparently I have no feminist agenda when it comes to four-color reading material.

4. It's not done, but what do you guys think of the new busking site? It's not nearly as nice to look at as the old one, but Lici informed me that people had trouble navigating the original layout. :P

We're totally on the official site now, except that they cut me out of the picture. D: I'd like to know why the official site is so clunky and ugly this year, considering how nice it was the past few festivals.

Life - Bolsheviks

FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH

So.

The new interim President of Mount St. Vincent University....?

................................

ALEXA MCDONOUGH!

Fuck yeah.

For those of you who have no idea wtf I'm talking about or why it's so FREAKING AWESOME:

1. Mount St. Vincent is the post-secondary institution I attend. It has an extensive and groundbreaking women's studies program, unique courses and is widely known for it's arts program. Our student body is something like 80% women- a lot of girls make the decision to come to the Mount because of its women's programs even if they never intend to take those classes. The school is small for a University, fostering a very non-corporate, personal feel.

2. Our most recent school President was attempting to make the Mount into a cash cow, essentially, focusing on things like our newish PR program, cutting back on the arts and attempting to axe the Women's Studies Major without even informing the student body properly. The program was essentially single-handedly saved by a friend of mine who went to the local newspaper about the issue. Once there was press surrounding it, the President was less willing to slash back such an important program. So, now she's gone and we have Alexa.

3. ALEXA MCDONOUGH is freaking AWESOME. She's a retired politician; former leader of both the Provincial and then the Federal NDP. She... pretty much saved the New Democratic party (which was holding less than ten chairs in Parliament before she got in power) and made the party attractive to the Atlantic provinces.

4. I am now less worried about my University spontaneously morphing into a technical college over the next decade. :D
