When Akutsu Jin was a little boy he was struck down by lightning while running along the river at the beginning of a rainstorm. He was running away from his mother.

He lay smoking in the grass while the rain began to pour down on him. His heart had stopped.

When Akutsu Jin was a little boy he was laying on the river bank and was struck by lightning. His body was smoking again.

His heart started.

The little boy sat up and coughed up a little blood, reaching up to try to dismiss the prickling static feeling on the top of his head. His hair was standing on end and when he touched it, it began to fall away, some of it burned black where the lightning had gone through his head the first time.

He looked at the tufts of hair, some soaked pieces falling, sliding down his neck and back.

He could hear his mother calling him.

Akutsu Yuuki stumbled upon her child in the grass, soaked to the bone, blood trickling from his mouth. There was a burn on the back of his head and most of his hair was gone. He was staring at her, his yellow eyes wide.

She screamed and went to him and he just sat there while she dialed for an ambulance.

"He seems fine."

"...will his hair grow back? What about the burn -."

"There will be a scar, but hair can cover it. It'll grow back. Forgive the pun, but he's in shock."

The boy looked towards the window of the observation room, the window behind him showing a raging storm. He slowly looked away and looked out of the window, the thunder rumbling.

He twitched, just as lightning struck somewhere nearby. The power went out temporarily and generators kicked in. The doctor left his mother in the hall to go check on some other patients.

She went into the room. "Jin, honey, don't be...scared..."

The machines in his room were on and working fine. The light above was fighting to come on, the florescent glow getting stronger and stronger, like a heart beat.

"Jin..." she said, uneasy.

The boy turned and looked at her, grinning. "I feel it."

"What?"

The light came on suddenly, bright, too bright and then shattered. The boy laughed and Yuuki went to press the call button.

The boy looked back outside.

He could feel it.

"I thought you could control it?"

Akutsu stared out of the large apartment window, watching the lightning storm calmly. The element raged in the sky, snaking down at random all over the city.

He was shirtless and he had his hands on his hips, the light from each strike highlighting the rain on the window and making tiny shadows on his skin. "I control myself." he said quietly.

The presence behind him was was cool, then warming. Chinen wrapped his arms around Akutsu's shoulders and leaned on him. "I like the lightning." the man whispered in his ear.

They didn't go out during storms. Akutsu didn't anyway, so Chinen never went. They didn't really need to go out anyway, but Akutsu loved making chaos in general, even better if the Seven got involved. And where Akutsu went, Chinen followed.

He was his Shadow.

"...do you have a headache?"

"No, but my scar hurts." Akutsu pulled away and headed into the darkness of the apartment. "I'm going to get aspirin."

Chinen watched him disappear into the dark hall then followed, watching Akutsu call a bit of lightning to his hand to light the way. It glowed blue and disappeared as he turned to go into the master bedroom.

Lightning struck outside and Chinen retreated as well, going into the bedroom and closing the door tight.
