My fifth year of this Madness. I will end up starting viewing before the legal start date as one movie, which I dearly want to include, is set to expire on August 31st, and I will also be incommunicado for close to two weeks in September. One of my own rules: all films I have not (to my knowledge) previously viewed and the sicker and more twisted they are the better. I will finish all the required criteria categories by film #16 (because that's how I roll) and then pad out the other 15 with films I just want to see. N.B., I'm not good at following rules. Accordingly, I reserve the right to keep adding as many additional films as I damn well please. There are currently an additional 20 movies on deck and, if necessary and time permits, 50 more wannabes waiting in the wings. So, let's begin:
6 Countries (okay, 20, but who's counting?):
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999) U.S.
Crimes of the Future (1970) Canada
Aniara (2018) Denmark & Sweden
The Cat with Hands (2001) U.K.
Extraordinary Tales (2014) France, Belgium, Germany, Spain & Luxembourg
Suicide Club (2001) Japan
The White Reindeer (1952) Finland
Suddenly in the Dark (1981) Korea
Mexico Barbaro (2015) Mexico
House on the Edge of the Park (1980) Italy
The Field Guide to Evil (2018) Austria, Greece, Hungary, India, Poland and Turkey
Films from at least 8 different decades (or how 'bout 11?):
Possessor - 2020s
Extraordinary Tales - 2010s
The Cat with Hands - 2000s
The Rage: Carrie 2 - 1990s
Suddenly, In the Dark - 1980s
Crimes of the Future - 1970s
The Hooked Generation - 1960s
Earth vs. the Spider - 1950s
The Flying Serpent - 1940s
Maniac - 1930s
The Hands of Orlac - 1920s
Earth vs. the Spider - 1950s
2 Insect Movies:
Earth vs. the Spider (1958)
Bite (2015)
1 Set in space or the future (how 'bout both?):
Aniara (2018)
2 Animated:
Extraordinary Tales (2013)
The Cat with Hands (2001)
1 featuring a bloodthirsty old person/people:
The Greasy Strangler (2016) (Worth it just for the title!)
X (2022)
2 1970s U.S. Regional films:
The Psychedelic Priest (1971)
Eaten Alive (1976)
Worst 1990s Sequel I could find (and would bother watching - time = $):
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
1 German Silent:
The Hands of Orlac (1924)
5 films by one or more of the following directors "Cronenberg, Ti West, Bill Rebane, Charles B. Pierce, William Grefe and/or Joy N. Houck Jr.:"
Possessor (2020) - Brandon Cronenberg (I interpret Cinemonster's use of first name for all the other directors but Cronenberg as giving tacit approval for Brandon's inclusion in this category)
Crimes of the Future (1970) - David Cronenberg (I may add Cronenberg's 2022 version to this list later)
The Sacrament (2013) - Ti West
X (2022) Ti West
The House of the Devil (2009) Ti West
The Psychedelic Priest (1971) - William Grefe
The Hooked Generation (1968) - William Grefe
2 Christopher Lee pics:
Extraordinary Tales (2013)
Nightmare Before Christmas - Tim Burton's Original Poem (2008)
1 with a musician or band:
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999) - John Doe of X
1 Stephen King adaptation that is "not the first go around:"
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
1 Lon Chaney film:
Nomads of the North (1920)
and, finally, 1 Tobe Hooper pic:
Eaten Alive (1976)
Let the Games begin.
