“Best” is a euphemism for “favorite,” as always.

2025 premieres are not eligible regardless of theatrical release (Mirrors No. 3, Nirvanna the Band the Movie, Undertone, The Christophers, etc.). Most critically, Curry Barker’s “Obsession,” which would be the clear number-one on this list otherwise. See 2025 list here.

Every film year seems dire before the major festivals, especially as the quality coming out of Sundance and Berlin has waned. The front end is loaded with slop, and some of our most anticipated features don't have dates set. 

We won't have a clearer picture until Cannes rolls around. And we may still be waiting until Venice and TIFF given the way Cannes is shaping up. 

It will be hard to top 2025, but there's a lot to be excited about in 2026.
