HOOPTOBER 2025 - for the 12th year in a row, Letterboxd user Cinemonster published a Shocktober list with a bunch of additional requirements designed to make the list broader and more interesting. This is my first time participating in Hooptober and not just a Shocktober list of my own creation, so I'm looking forward to a good time.
A couple of caveats
- I am only choosing films I haven’t seen. One of the required films is Wizard of Oz, which I’ve seen a few dozen times, so I’m choosing to substitute it for Return to Oz. Technically against the rules, but it is what is.

A couple of caveats
- I am only choosing films I haven’t seen. One of the required films is Wizard of Oz, which I’ve seen a few dozen times, so I’m choosing to substitute it for Return to Oz. Technically against the rules, but it is what is.
- I was only required to cover 9 decades, but I actually covered 12 (woo hoo, I have zero watched films from the 1910s before now)
- I chose to impose a few additional rules where any films outside the established categories should either be new 2025 releases or releases from countries I’ve seen few films from, so I added two movies from Africa, two extra films from a former Soviet country, and films from Japan and South America.
- I’m still on an extreme horror kick, so I opted to include one doozy of an extreme film — Philosophy of a Knife (yes, all four hours of it). If this proves too much, I may DNF it and watch Men behind the Sun instead, which is also a doozy.
