I realized some years ago that I just don't really like zombie movies, which isn't to say there aren't zombie movies I like (one of them from this year even!), but I am not a fan of the genre. Not a fan of The Last of Us. Not the Walking Dead. So, I dug deep into some left of center to fill this out. I was also able to fill in some spots that fit with current works of filmmakers I'm revisiting right now and I may end up adjusting on the fly.

Lynch is always on my mind, but this year's categories and inclusion of Oz gave me an excuse to tip it toward his surreal visions.
Cronenberg (dad) is one of my favorites and I've never seen a film by his son, so I added the latter's first and the former's most recent.
There's been so many Stephen King adaptations this year, I had to go full King on the novels, save Audition from Miike, who fits into the Aronofsky and Boyle timeline when I was a projectionist in the 90s.
