In my 4th year!!! 😱🪦🧟♂️🎃 Tried to be sneaky in putting the year in my subtitle compared to my last three Hooptobers ("forbid" for 4, get it? 😆). Last year's Hooptober was the most challenging list to assemble. This year, perhaps because I have tried my best to plan ahead and held off watching certain horror movies that I already have access to earlier in the year, I have managed to fill in all the criteria within at least 4 hours (putting off work just to complete the list 🤪). All but three (Jaws for the 50th anniversary re-release, 28 Days Later and The Wizard of Oz) entries on this list will be first-time watches.
For the "6 countries" criteria, I'm excluding from the count not only films that are produced in the USA and Italy as explicitly stated in Cinemonster's original list, I'll also further complicate the other countries/regions that are part of another criteria – Mexico or Central America, Canada, and a former Soviet Union state. I'll still count my selections from these 3 countries/regions as a bonus since they fulfill another criteria. A spot is reserved for a film from my home country, the Philippines.
28 Years Later was good even though I didn't "like" it that much, but I've decided to look back into the series.
I have only considered works of literary fiction for the "based on novels" criteria – White Zombie is based on a 1929 non-fiction travelogue by William Seabrook, and The Cat and the Canary is based on a play. Viy doesn't also meet the same as it is based on a novella.
Horror movies watched before September 15th will not be included (how sad, The Conjuring: Last Rites). Instead, they will be logged in the Hooptober 1-8 catch-up list I started since the end of Hooptober11.
