Terribly cringe-inducing, overwrought, unbalanced in tone and overall really bad. At times entertaining - I enjoyed the performances of the two monsters but the writing was just so embarrassing.

A gorgeous horror anthology where (for once) the frame narrative is the most compelling story of them all. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit it gets a little slow around the middle but it makes a great comeback with the final short and the finale of the frame story.
Comes highly recommended for friends of the genre - especially if you’re interested in returning to the roots of proper horror anthology-films!

To me this is the most perfect version of the Dracula/Nosferatu-story. The unholy trinity of Adjani, Kinski and Ganz infuses this worn-out tale with so much emotion and terror that it seems vibrant and new.

I figured out the best way to watch this was to just sink into it - as is the case with most Lovecraftian tales. Loved the vibes and the imagery. Wish that I’d seen this one late night television as a kid, it would’ve traumatized me.
