Hooptober #25: Japan, 1980s, 2 of 2 post apocalyptic or natural disaster related films
The director's cut on Tubi is 2.5 hours, which is a long time to be depressed and angry. This starts out as an interesting examination of how absolutely shitty humans can be to one another, and is actually pretty prescient. I usually enjoy bureaucracy, but I checked out when the committee decided - rather than condemn rape - it was a sign that the EIGHT surviving women should be put to use servicing the EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY FIVE men to repopulate the species. While living in Antarctica, with limited resources needed to support even more people? Or, I don't know, hospitals and infant-specific doctors and medical care? By that point, I was actually rooting for the virus.
