Hooptober X: The Devil Made Me Do It
#23: Bonus
Hulu
Brian Duffield's NO ONE WILL SAVE YOU starts out with an interesting story. We don't know why young Brynn is an outcast living alone on the outskirts of town, but Duffield is able to convey so much of her daily struggle and set the tone without a line of dialogue.
Unfortunately, when the alien invasion starts things get progressively less interesting. The aliens, while seemingly super advanced, act like typical action movie goons. One of the giant ones chases Brynn into a car and gets his big limbs stuck, when he could've just stepped over the car -- we'd just seen daddy longlegs climb over a damn house.
Without giving anything away here, I will give the film credit for giving us a different type of ending. I didn't see that coming and it's the kind of ending that'll get people talking.
As an aside, why is it that spacefaring aliens in these invasion movies are always naked? Whenever they come to a modern-day Earth, they're almost always nude. Just naked grey butts on their seats. But if the aliens are in a space-based movie or show like Star Wars or Star Trek, they usually have clothes on.
