I can’t even imagine how great this was viewed when it first aired. Especially given how much of the older generation came out to see the new film, this was probably the second coming just knowing how people react to Elvis. Although I did see the 2022 film first and was a little worried that this might seem like a Wikipedia page of information just in film form, I was kinda surprised at how just fine it all was. I was expecting a bit more show and flare to the film, but John Carpenter really keeps the film calm and personal to Kurt Russell’s portrayal and it worked for the most part. The problem is that with the slower pace the near three hour runtime takes a bit of a toll. Sometimes it feels like we’re lingering over useless scenes and it didn’t help. It’s interesting to see simply for John Carpenter’s name being attached, but Elvis is not that special and really feels like the definition of basic.
