68/100
I think it’s a little tricky to talk about this film when you realize that just a year prior Carpenter released arguably one of the greatest horror films ever in The Thing and had to follow up with something everyone was probably expecting to be just as great. Although I still found myself actively enjoying Christine, the one thing that really got me was how much it felt like in the middle of the film there was just a shift in everything and I don’t think it really went as smoothly as I would’ve liked. The thing that makes this so weirdly in the middle of a rating for me is how uneven it feels like the horror is. I couldn’t tell if I was supposed to be more scared of the car or of Arnie as a character and it was enjoyable but I think the film could’ve been much much better if it picked one and stuck to it. It’s spooky, Carpenter still directs the hell out of it, and honestly Christine is a solid time.
